8SC SPRING CONCERT DELIGHTS AUDIENCE
Those who missed the wonderful performance of Savan¬
nah State College’s Choral Society on last Sunday missed a real
treat. Sorry that your scribe did not get there but so
many wonderful words of praise have come to our ears that
wc just must offr our congratulations to the members of the
Choral Society and the director, Dr. Coleridge A. Braithwaite.
The made and female glee clubs all In spring formats were
featured in separate groups of varied selections. Miss Con¬
stance Lewis and Curtis Cooper of Savannah, Joseph Brown
of Colum his, and Nathan Dell of Dublin were soloists.
All who have ever witnessed a chorus under Dr. Brailh-
uaite have expressed their enjoyment seeing him direct it.

BEACH ADULT QUUCATtON CENTER HOLDS
COMMENCE ME NT EXERCISES
A large crowd witnessed the commencement exercises ol
Beach Adult Education Center on last Thursday night- There
were graduates in the departments of brick masonry, carpen¬
try, dressmaking, interior decoration, tailoring and domestic
science. There were eighty in all, the largest number being
in domestic science. Congratulations to all of the members
of the graduating class.
The speaker for the evening was Dean Geraldine II. Penn.
She was introduced by Mrs. Dorothy R. Lumpkin, Supcrvisoi
of the Vocational Division of the Beaih Adult Education
Center. . Dean Penn’s experiences include the following,
teacher in the public school c.i Leavensworth, Kansas; in¬
structor, St- Pliillips Junior College, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Professor and Dean of the School of Home Economies, ant.
Adviser in.-Home Economies, School of Graduate studies, South
Carolina State College. She is a member of Alpha Kappa
Sorority, the Episcopal Church, the Association oi Department
of Teacher Trainers of Home Economies, Southern Region, N.
E, A.; Past Matron, O. E. S., Kansas and South Carolina »ur-
isdietious and several other affiliations.
The welcome was given by Principal Oliva L. Douglas, 'i he
class was presented by Mrs. Harriett P. Brown, Senior Class
Adviser. Musical selections were rendered by Beach High
Chorus and organ airs were played by Mr. Peter Smalls, di- i
icetor of Music at Alfred E. Beach.
Certificates were awarded by Miss Phyllis Kravitcli, mem- I
per of the Board of Education and remarks by Mr. John oyt
jen, Director of the Savannah Vocational School, Sgt. Funk
and Mr. Frank Underwood. Assistant Superintendent ol
Schools In Chatham County.
Prizes were awarded *;y Mrs, Bonnie W. Turner. Di¬
vision prizes were won foy James King for brickamasonry;
James Tyson for carpentry; U. T. Brooks for interior decora
tion; Mrs. Susie Maynard for dressmaking; Mesdames Dora
Norris and Dorothy M,-Neeley; tailoring, Mrs. Louise Daughtry
and clothing construction, Miss Ruth Vaughn.

Mrs. Bessie Deloach Received a prize for tailoring and

Mrs. Carrie Moore, president of the Student Council, pre¬

by one of their fellow members, Mrs. Pearl Lavender Miller

was a large booth in which was placed a large rose. As each
member was Introduced she walked across the ballroom to

The Usher Board ol Second Baptist Church recently in¬
stalled their new officers: Paul Brown, president; Mrs.
Margaret Johnson, vice president, Mrs. Louise Jackson, sec¬
retary; Floyd Dingle, treasurer and Mrs. Mablc Edwards, re¬
porter. The officers were installed by Tlie Rev. Edgar P.

The Omegas’ Scholarship Dance was
attended. Tlie contestants were very flattering in their
attire. Reigning as Miss Omega was the very charming and
petite Miss Ethel Terrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
H. Terrell. Other contestants in their winning order were
Misses Delores Grant, Marie Barnwell, Jean Miller and Alber-
fha James. All received lovely gifts and flowers.
Mrs. S. M. McDew (Mary) flew to South Bend, Indiana
during the past week end because of the very serious illness
of her brother. Here's hoping that she found his condition

The groom is former director of public relations at Sa¬
vannah State College. He is now on the faculty of Florida

According to an old joke, privates are
t he most general things in tlie army, and
I generals are the most, private.
1 only wish the second part of that
gag applied to men in public life. Ever
since I was in the New York State
Legislature, I haven’t had what any¬
body could rightly call a private life. I
think few men in civic affairs do.
That’s the reason, I suppose, why so
