They told police they met on j
the Florida A,vM campus and
laid come to the city together
on a sight seeing” tour. They
admitted they would not sit
where the bus driver placed
them, as is required by a new
city ordinance.
Following a federal court de¬
cision declaring Tallahassee bus
segregation ideal, city and bus
officials agreed upon an “as¬
signed seating” plan whereby
the bus driver is given the right
to assign seats to passengers.
Alty. Francisco Rodriguez of
TIIE SAVANNAH TRIBUNE
Tainpa, an attorney for the
ACT’, said the arrests
definitely not set up to
a “test case” against the
bus seating plan.
Also denying any part in
Saturday incident was the lai-
lahassee Inter-Civic Council, a
Negro organization supporting
bus integration.
The arrests topped off a week
of bus integration troubles
which resulted in Gov. Letoy
Collins threatening to take
“immediate and effective” ac¬
tion to halt further anti-Negro
violence in tiie state capital.
Collins, who .su pended bus
sevices for almost two weeks
recently after a flare-up of
racial troubles, issued the statc-
