Though Negroes here havp
unusually active in the fight
desegregation, the march on
hall, perhaps the largest single de
monstration of its kind in
South by Negroes, was inspired
the bombing of Looby’s home.
Looby, 62 yenrs old, and a
ticing lawyer here since 1926,
highly regarded throughout
eity in spite of the uncompromis
ing stand he has taken on
issues.
FBI Offers Aid
The Federal Bureau of
gation offered its services in
ing to investigate the blast,
was turned down, at least
porarily, by W. E. Hopton,
of the state bureau of
tion who said he wanted to
haust his facilities of his own
ganization first.
The damage to Looby’s ho—
was so extensive that the ei'y
to condemn the structure
urmans that the home is be"'*"'

have to find another residence.
