Nexr York Dry Good* Market*
From the New York World, October HUh. t
Tho stocks in first hands show some aoeumu*
lation^and trade, sineo the brook in gold last
Friday, has been inactive, except for co'ton
f oods, the demand tor which has been stiaiu-
ated by the rise in the raw material. The im
portation is in execs? of the wants of tho mar
ket at tho present high cost of laving down
here, and no little apitrcheiiMou begins to be
felt lest a vast quantity of goods be brown into
the auction rooms, ami tho market entirely
demoralised.
Cotton Good*.—'The recout great advance in
raw Colton has led to a moroactivo demand lor
cotton goods, and there U more firmness, but,
us yet, little, if an... advance. The invroused
demand began on Friday, lias been well lul-
lowcd up Saturday and io-dfiy.
Brown Shf.ltimjh.—Stand aid goods are sold
close up at J4c., an 1 this is tho nominal quota
tion still, but the tendency is decidedly upward.
Lighter ami liner goods arc iu more demand,
but thcro is no disposition to advance prices.
Itlraciiki* Goons—Have boon active, nnd
prices arc really belter, although quotations
remain tho same. There is no difficulty in
placing goods at the nominal prices of la-t wcok.
t PKiNT9—Are quite active and very firm. Mer
rill ac, 32?. and 34c., the former jobbing ut a half
cent advance; Sprague and Cucheoo, 32c.;
Amoskcug, 29c.
Printing Clotiib.—Goods for immediate de
livery, 94x01, nro selling at 21' 2 r »c.; and
those to bo mnJn from January to May and
July, arc firm, at 2'tc. .Some to be made are
sold higher than that price.
Jacoxkts—Firm. Slater’s, 31c.; Silesian are
steady.
Cottonades—And Deuiuis uioro active and
very firm.
1»bi.ainkb—The regular goods are in brisk
demand at 3oc.
Ticks ami Stuipks.— 1 There it a good demand
and prices rulo very firm.
Drills—Arc in better supply, and dull.
Woolkn (loons.—Tho inurket is rather quiet
throughout, ami goods uro in better stock. Pri
ces arc firm, but clothiers insist upon a reduc
tion bofore entering the market freely.
Foreign Geons.—The recent heavy importa
tions come upon a market comparatively well
supplied, ar.d trade his boeu dull, fhe ad-
Tunco in gold last week gave a iittle activity to
trailo. but it soon censed, and to-ddy is very
dull. Jobbers and dealers give their attention
to domestic cotton goods to-day in prelert
to any other branch of tho trade.
