bama penitentiary for twenty-two years.
The trial look place at Clayton, Barbour
county, Alabama. Munroe Jaokson waa
eonvioted of the charge of robbery of the
bona# of Hon. Eli 8. Shorter, in the night
time. For thia ha wu sentenced to tha
penitentiary for twenty years. He wu
sentenced for two yean more on aooount
of having wilfully nworn judicially that he
had never bun in Entente until brought
thsrs by the Columbus policemen.
Thu officers of Eufaula were mere
instruments in guarding a severely
wounded man to that plaee. Tbia negro
ia accused, with strong reason, u being
the one who murdered a obieken peddler
over the river; of murdering Mr. Well
born, of Entente, and of robbing Mr.
Aleok. Rowell, of Lee oounty, of some

The same train conveyed to thia point

of eggs. Large arrivals of both turkeys
and eggs were reoeived by th* laat boat
from Florida, and mure are expected by

egg-nog for Christmas.

Rev. Hampton Benton, a oolored Bap

of the Colored Baptist Association, died

day. His funeral wu attended by a large
