The Troy Enquirer says that the mem
ber* of the Biehlaud Orange, in Pike
county, last year raised a aufBoienoy of

members are tapidly becoming indepen

—The Camden New* contains the fol
lowing account of the drowning of four
men last week: At Black’s Bluff, iu this
county, Inst Saturday week, as we hare
been credibly informed, four negro men
were drowned. It appear* that Are
negroes entered a skiff to goaorosathe
river at that point, and in oonieqticnec of
the high wind prevailing at that time, the
skiff was ospaized, when fonr of the
number were drowned. The other uian
swam ashore, and escaped the fate of his
companion*. The river was much swol
len, and we believe the bodies heve not
been recovered.

—On Tuesday the coantier of Morgan
and Clarke cbose delegates friendly to
Mr. Hill to the Congressional Nominating

gates. We believe that Mr. Hill has now
twenty-five or tweDty-six out of the forty-

Powder Enpleelon—Lose of Property
and Life.
San Francisco, April 8.—The Grant
Powder Mills in e frame bnilding ex
ploded, crushing the wells of Hathaway’s
bonded warehouse, oorner Spear and
Haveraou streets. A number of frame
buildings, occupied as saloons and dwel
lings, were blown to pieoea, and in a few
minutes the whole disbs was in flames.
A number of men, women and children
wero crushed. Some perished in the
flvues. Loss to the warehouse is $500,-
000. The Are is under control. Search
for bodies is pushed as fast as the flames
will permit. Three hare been taken out.
