Nkw York, Jane 25.—Mrs. Tilton
publishes s curd and affidavit, pronounc

up, or over put down during the time
specified. ( ‘There never was any im

lation between Henry Ward Beecher and
myself, aud all charges of adultery or im

HUB CARD CONTRADICTED.
Nuw York, June 25.—The Brooklyn
Argus had an interview with Loader to
day, who says, there is not an iota of truth
in Mrs. Tilton’s card, from beginning to
end, so far as he is eonoerned. He asserts
that he saw more than has appeared in the
papers. He nover spoke or had anything
to do with the Tiltons until a week ago.
He thought they had enough against
Beecher without his testimony, or he
would have spoken before.

KILLED IN A NIOUT.
New Yore, June 25.—The steamer
Aoapulco brings dates from Panama to
the 16th instant.
No further details of the earthquake in
the Valley of Oucutta had been received.
Political trouble was brewing in Pan
ama, owing to the imprisonment of Gon.
Camargo, who came on a special mission
from Bogota,but advices from Washington
whioh state that the United States would
not look with indifference on any compli
cations that would endanger railroad
transit, was having a good effect for the
preservation of peaoe. Merchants of
Panama have agreed to advance to the
government, by way of a loan, an amount
of increased contributions, imposed by
the decree of May 21st.
A revolution was threatened in tho
Stato of Magdalena by Col. Farias, who
had eolleoted a large force near Rio
liacho, and it is believed ho has sent an
emnuesary to Bogota to warn the Colombi
an Government if it attempts to interforo
with the sovereignty of any of the Coast
States, all will cotnbino to resist it.
Claims of the United States Govern
ment on Honduras for insults to its Con
sul and flag at Ouioa, during Ihe bom
bardment of that place, when occupied
by Gen. Strebcr, have been amicably set
tled to the satisfaction of the United
States.
Fifty lives wore lost in tho harbor of
Valparaiso during the storm on tho 23d
nit. During the storm eight or ton ap
prentices on tho Chillian man-of-war,
Valdivia, were drowned by tho upsetting
of a boat. Soven vessels wore wrecked,
including tho British hark Laura Mc
Lennan. Capt. Harris, with his wife and
soven children, were drowned.
PARTICULARS OF THE EARTHQUAKE.
The Maracaibo letter of May 29tb, giv
ing an account of (he earthquake causing
the destruction of San Jose Do Cucutta,
says on the 16th and 17th there had been
earthquake shocks, but on the morning
of the 18th everything was serene. At
half past eleven the earth commenced
shaking with great force, and from all
sides. People rnshed to the steamers.
For fifteen seconds the movement contin
ued, the city moving like a groat ship
without ballast. Instantaneously a cloud
of fine du»t enshrouded the steamers, and
bouses impending the vision and called
forth cries of horror. Thee# wdre of short
duratkm,ae the duet Boon baeaae ao thick
as to impede the respiration. Many who
might have been saved from the ruins of
falling, timbers fell victims to suffoca
tion. Not longer than two minutes did
this terrible affair eontinne. The wind
rapidly carried away the dust cloud.
The bo fearful day was followed by
still more horrible night. The survivors
had moved to the suburbs of the city,
where encampments had been established
Rain commenced to fall in torrents, and
amid the impenetrable darkness, groans
of the wounded filled the air, varied only
by the sharp detonations proceeding from
tho explosive materials amid the mins.
The coming of a new day showed that
no more than 2,000 remained alive. Be
neath tho fallen houses lay from 8,000 to
10,000 dead.
The letter also reports the destruction
at other places, as mentioned in an ac
count of the earthquako by way of Pana
ma some two weeks ago.

The returned pilgrims and escorts then
proceeded to the Old Maaonio Hall,
where u sumptuous repast was discussed,
after which, the doubtless, wearied
Knights wore nllowod to go to their re
spective homes.
An idoa of tho prevalence of the gen
eral good tooling on the part of the im
mense congregation of people, who turn
ed out to welcome the Knights, may bo
had from the manner iu which they made
tho wolkiu ring, when Kossuiok’s band,at
the head of the column, struck up, first
‘Yankee Doodle,” then “Carry me back
to old Virginia,” and lastly, “Diiie.”

The Albert Lea (Minn.) Standard
says : Two youug men, oue of them re
siding in tho northern part of this conn

Steele county, were each enamored with
one aud the same young lady. The af

equally divided between tbe two. Hard

sum of $100. The other oIjad oouldn’t

property himself. Steele county scorned
the offer. Our man raised the bid to
$125, which was not accepted. One

him, but when tbo bid was raised to $160
it prove d too much for his cupidity, and
with great eagerness ho cried out “Take
