Young MeClendau, who shot himself at
Macon Sunday, seems to he getting along
very well, and there is little doubt as to his
ultimate recovery. To his uncle, who has
always laid his confidence, he refused to
talk on the subject of the shooting.
The trial of Richard Townsend for the
killing of the Florida sheriff will come up
ji. Lowndes court on Monday, and will take
up much of the time of the court. It is
believed that it will exhaust the jury box
lo get a jury.
Mr. John Branham showed the Wash
ington Chronicle some very rich gold ore
Iasi Saturday. It was found on the place
of Mr. John tlallerher in Warren county,
and is the richest ore which we have seen
in several years. Its value would be at
least $2000 a ton.
The mills of the Liberty county land and
lumber company, at Joscelyn, have shut
down. The Messrs. I’npot have given up
the mills, and J. K. Clarke, representing
the company, is in possession. This was a
very important enterprise, and its suspen
sion has thrown many out of employment.
While in Rome a few days ago Tube
Jackson, the wily mountaineer and alleged

liis friends had written to Fox, of the Police
Gazette, a few days before that and asked
