The Young Men’s Christian Association !
is erecting an elegant building in Atlanta. !
Rome and Athens are both arranging to
have electric lights.
There are a number of boys confined in
Fulton county jail for various offenses.
They behave outrageously, and appear to
regard themselves as heroes and martyrs,
which is a very bad sign.
The people of Georgia are not such irre
pressible office seekers after all. They
seem to be disposed to let the state house
officers alone during good behavior. These
officers have not been acting as if they
owned the state.
There is a man is Athens who is in the
habit of selling domestic wines to minors,
and a few days since he sold two little
school boys a quart and they got drunk on
it. He will be presented to the grand jury
and prosecuted.
There is an overwhelming sentiment in
favor of Athens appropriating £25,000 to
the school of technology, but the danger
is to get the votes out. About ten days
before the election a warm contest will be
made, and the friends of the measure are
hopeful of success.
Since prohibition does not forbid the
sale of domestic wines, thousands of gal
lons of wretched stuff, made of black ber
ries, has been nut up in the country, and
will be sold in Athens by the quart on big
days. All of it is as black as ink and thick
as gruel. A man must be hard up to drink
it.
A Party of hunters, headed by H. A.
Ledbetter and W. A. Strother, of Albany,
enjoyed a regular old-fashioned deer drive
Saturday. The drive was made on the
Beall place, just across Jordan’s ford, at a
S oint well known to the hunters. Several
eer were jumped but it fell to the fortune
of Willie Strother to kill the only one
brought down in the party, which liighly
elated the young man.
At Augusta there are forty-nine prison
ers in jafl, eight white and forty-one col
ored. Of these eight are women and forty-
one men. Six of the number are under 31.
One is held for murder, five'for felonies,
and the remainder for minor offenses. The
jail is as neat as a pin, and the inmates
speak highly of their kind treatment at
the hands of the jail authorities.
A good lawyer says that even in the
event of Ordinary Thrasher, of Oconee,
appealing to the supreme court, that the
sale of liquor can be stopped in the county
until after the decision is made. In view
of this fnct, it is reported that the ordinary-
will declare the result “wet.” An appeal
will be made, when Judge Hutchins will
appoint three justices of the peace to re
count the vote and declare the result.
A Hamilton correspondent under date
of August 3d, says : -‘The annual three
days’ meeting of the South Union Musical
Convention was held here Friday, Satur
day and Sunday last at the Baptist church.
Jlr. J. N. Hutchinson,of Alabama, is presi
dent. Large numbers attended each meet
ing and was enjoyed immensely. Rev. K.
H. Harris, of the First Baptist church,
Columbus, made a fine address Saturday
morning, holding the close attention of a
packed house for nearly an hour.
Willis Price, of Macon, has a game
rooster, whose latest feat is the slaying of
rats. He tosses them up with his bill and
transfixes them with his spurs as they come
down. He had a terrible battle with a
large Norwegian rodent Saturday, and, al
though the rat fought vigorously, he was
mastered by the rooster in short order.

On Sunday the new schedule between
Jacksonville and Sanford went into eili et,
by which the time between the two cities
is reduiMm to three hours and forty min
utes. 1 his is probably the first step to
wards making yp tl fast male service be-
t\\^en New \ ork and 1 lavannu. The Post
Office Of hem 1 bulletin states that there will
hereafter be a regular tri-weekly service
between Tampa and Key West,

1 he toughest mosquito yarns come from
down the river. It is told of one of the
crew of the steamer Roekledge, that after
they got into the inlet, when night came
he went to sleep in a stateroom, the win-
dow to which was protected by a screen.
He had scarcely fallen asleep when he was
awakened by a sense of suffocation—the
mosquitoes had thronged the screen and
stuck their heads into the meshes till they
had excluded every purticle of air.
He frantically kicked out the screen and
now he does not know whether he would
rather die of suffocation or mosquito bites.
Another veracious statement from below
is that a young man went to work for the
first time on bis homestead, providing him
self with a good sand-fly netting bar. The
first night out he pitched his tent, liung his
net and went to bed. For three days and
nights he did not stir. The mosquitoes had
so thickly covered his net on the outside
that it was perfectly dark inside—he did
not know when daylight came.
FAST BRICKLAYING.
Better Than Ten n Minute for Over Five Hours.
In Bridgeport, Conn., the other day,
raining us it was, there occurred at San
ford's new block, on Park avenue, an in
teresting bricklaying contest against time.
Boss mason Patrick Garvey and Mr. Ben
nett, boss carpenter, had laid a wager
to the amount oi twenty dollars, the car
penter betting that, there was not a man in
tlie country who could lay three thousanci
bricks in a day. He said he had seen
workmen in the old country, and he knew
no such amount of brick could be laid.
The mason said he could produce a man in
Bridgeport who could do the job, and lie
put up his £20 bn him. The contest was
set down for Tuesday, and the boss mason
selected James Kano, sr., formerly of
Meriden, a knight of the troivel, “who can
put down brick from the word go,” to win
the money. Kane began work at 7:15 a.
m. on an eight-inch wall of the building.
He didn’t make much fuss, but he picked
up brick steadily. After working three
hours and twenty minutes, being hindered
by rain, Kane stopped for dinner.
The count showed that he hub
laiu 1840 brick. He took another turn of
two hours and fifteen minutes at the trowel
during the afternoon and put down 1660
brick, muking n total 3500 laid in five hours
and thirty-five minutes. After the feat
Kane danced a hornpipe to the amuse
ment of bystunders. The carpenter paid
the bet, and the men had a social time in
the evening over tlie event. The feat is
considered a great one among brick-layers.
It is called the biggest feat on record, as in
ten hours Kane could have laid nearly 7000
brick, and something over 4000 is the high
est known.
BLOOD AND MONEY.
The blood of man has much to do in shaping
his actions during his pilgrimage through this
1 troublesome world, regardless of the amount of
j Present or expectant money in pocket or stored
away in bank. It is a conceded fact that we ap
pear as our blood makes us, and the purer the
blood, the happier, healthier, prettier and wiser
we arc: henoe the oft-repeuted interrogatory,
"how is your blood ?’’ With pure streams oflife-
giving fluid coursing through our veins, bounding
through our hearts, and ploughing through our
physical frames, our morals become better, our
constitution stronger, our intellectual faculties
more uceute and grander, and men, women and
children happier, healthier and -more lovely.
The unprecedented demand, the unparalleled
curative powers, and the unmistakable proof from
those of unimpeachable character and integrity,

showing in its magical powers in curing and en- I
tirely eradicating the above complaints, and
gigantic sales in the face of frenzied opposition
and would-be money monopolists.
Letters from all points where introduced are
pouring in upon utf, speaking in the loudest praise.
Some say they receive more benefit from one bot
tle of B. H.}}. than they have from twenty, thirty*
and fifty, and even one hundred bottles of a
boasted decoction of inert and non-medicinal
roots, and brunches of common forest trees. We

Policeman's Views.
Mrs. M. M. Prince, living at 38 West Fair street,
Atlanta, Ga., has been troubled for several
months with an ugly form of catarrh, attended
with a copious and offensive discharge from both
nostrils.
Her system became so affected and reduced that
she was confined to bed at ray house for some
time, and received the attention of three
physicians, and used a dozen bottles of an exten
sively advertised blood remedy, all without the
least benefit. •
She finally commenced the use of B. B. B., with
a decided improvement at once, and when ten
bottles had been used, she was entirely cured of
all symptoms of catarrh.
It gave her an appetite, aud increased her
strength rapidly, and I cheerftilly recommend it
as a quick and ciieup tonic and Blood Purifier.
