Tlit* (leadwater Extension.
Mr. Silas DeWolf, of the Birmingham and
Goodwater extension surveying corps, returned
to the city yesterday to spend the holidays. In
speaking of the new road he said: The corps to
which I am attached under Captain W. E. Crum
finished their survey on December 10. We sur
veyed from Childersburg beyond the tunnels, a
distance of twenty-two miles. The other corps
under Captain Lewis, is now finishing the line.
The contractors of the road are Messrs. Dunaven,
Tate and Bardelebiu. They have given a heavy
bond to have the road ready for business by Sep
tember 15, 1887. They will do it, though the task
is a herculiun one. They will have to cut two
tunnels—one 1200 and one 2400 feet lung.
They will also build au irou bridge across the
Coosa river, at Childersburg.
