Lack or does seem fo us that

some of our property-holders. In the present
scarcity of bosineze bouses, and the fabulous

residences on the burnt districts, at the inter
section of Molberry and Third ‘.treats, First and

Fo* the HoWDAfi.—Extensive preparations
have been made in every department of mer
chandising in Macon, for holding high carnival
during Christmas time. One of tha largest, moat

busy time at their large establishment. Tho
crowds of ladies that constantly thronged their
salesroom exhibited much eagerneu to secure
ibe bargains that were effected. The same re
duced prices will be continued next weet, and
wo invite, the attention of every person who
wish** to secure bargains of 6. Ptvsin, A Co.
A Paorxssiosab Cz uoht.—Yesterday a man
named Edmondson, alias Thompson, wes arrostad

cotton trom tha wart-house of Mr. Lowe, In East

but it came out in the testimony that one of the
old man's clerks—a white man—bad * Id the

Fcovisxoxs—A steady and good trade was done
in this line. Much of it was In fancy articles,
anticipating the cake and candy aeason that
Jtriss Kringle, nee Santa Claus presides over.
Ecus.—An Immense trade was done in hen

of the articles that have been laid in by every
body and everybody's wife, there will bo much
eggnog, and many silly bub* made during the

To gobble turkeys, cost our peoplo five dollars

against such Turkish extortion, though we sup
pose that when we are in Turkey, we must do as

Tax Cocsty Jail.—Nothing has been done in
the matter of rebuilding the Bibb county jail,
destroyed by firo some two month ago, with the
exception of the presentment of the grand jury,
asking that it bo speedily put up. Tho import
ance of such a building to the county and qity
cannot be over-estimated, and the appropriation
for the purpose should be at once made and ope
rations commenced. The police jail is filled to
repletion with municipal, Stale and Federal of
fenders, so many being crowded into one cell as
to create disease among them. We hope to see
the matter receive prompt attention, and a new
and stronger building arise from tho ashes of the
old jail—a monument to the liberality of the
State, and a terror to evil doers.
General Accilxxt Policies.—E. C. Grantee
Insures against accidents of all kinds—whether they
occur at home or while traveling, In the cars or on
the boat, in theshop, the office, the counting-house

while on a pleasure trip.
In insuring against accidents, no medical exam
ination is required. All ages are accepted, and the
premiums are so small, that every one, be he me
chanic, merchant, or professional mao, may secure
a policy.
The Policy covers all forma of dislocation*: bro

burns, aud scalds, bites of dogs, assaults by burg
lars, robbers; or murderers, the action of lightning
or sun-stroke, the effects of explosions, floods

Holiday Fun.—We know of no more ratlon&
manner ef passing away an evening than dropping
in at Ralston Hall, to wltnesa the chaste and mirth
ful entertainments of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Watkins.
On Saturday evening they performed to a small but
enthusiastic audience, who, went away with every
wrinkle smoothed from their visages. *Twas tru

tainment on Monday evening, and others during
the holidays.
A Merry Christmas to each and all—to rich
and poor—to every one to whom aalvation wa*
brought by Him, whose natal day was ushered in
by the songs and harplngs of angelic hosts. Maj
peace and joy and plenty reign this day throughout
the broad dominions of this our glorious southern
land! and sorrow and care be banished for the
nonce. If the vexations and discomforts of this
life will intrude themselves upon tho elders, let
the hearts of the dear children be made glad, aud
not one think that Christmas Is as *auy other day-
bringing no gladness to their homes Parents, let
them not ask why Santa Claus does not comedown
their chimney, nor breathe this prayer of a little
one, to whom Christmas had not proved a Joyous
season in the past:
"Our Father, who art in heaven! please make
us good and happy, and let us have & merry
Christmas. If thero is any Santa Claus, please
let him come to our house to-night, for he has
never been Ijere lq all our live* and this makes
us very sorry. Bless dear papa and mama, and
don't lot us think bard of them, or say naughty
things about them, only because they dontknow
how little children feel. Amen.”
