We are pained to announce the death of
Judge William M. Rilkt. late Ordinary of this
county, and a man highly esteemed by all our
people, as a public officer and a citizen. His
habits ware modest and unobtrusiae, but his
sterling worth and undoubted integrity were
apery where recognized and attested not only by
his election to eh* responsible position of Ordin
ary,but by numerous other fiduciary trusts which
ha held. He is to be buried by his brethren of
the United Lodge of Odd Fellows, this dsy.
The Judge died of consumption of the lungs ;
and his age, we suppose, was in the neighbor
hood of forty.

The workmen in the Washington navy yard
were docked for lost time on the day of Secre
tary Rawlins' funeral; this, notwithstanding the
Secretary of the Nasy ordered the workshops to
be cloeed on that day.
Superadded to the amount so “ saved to our
Government and country," the press telegrams
have informed the public that the Secretary of
War. ud interim, has been able to lay by a small
additional amount by docking the wages of the
clerks in the Department when they have come
too late in the morning or tarried too late to
dinner. In this way the work of economy and
retrenchment is advanced in Washington suffi
ciently, perbsps, to ensble the President snd

cruises in the national vessels with s pomp snd
circumstance becoming their position snd " the

and robbed the honaes of several negroes, beat
ing one severely. The negroes say they were
white men and not disguised, but threatened
them with certain death if they told their names
to the white people. The victims of this outrage
are among the most quiet, industrious and inof
fensive negroes in the country ; and the conduct
of the fifteen or twenty miscreants engaged in
the disgraceful affair, most be condemned by
every good citizen, as most ruinous in its ten
dency to the well heiDg of the whole commu
nity, both white and black. Home measures
should be taken to punish such unlawful pro
ceedings and prevent their repetition, or the re
sult will be the subversion of all law and the ex
pulsion of lslorers from the sections infested
by anch outlaws.
[How hap|>ens it that those old settled and
wealthy counties of Georgia like Newttjn, War
ren, and the like, don't set the new counties an
example of quiet, order, submission to law, for-
bearanoe, justice, conciliation and the like ?

A Resident of Macon Success

Cured-Flve years elapsed and
health still good.
CARD FROM MR. HOPKINS.
Macon, Ga_, September 11, 1869.
Nearly five yean since, I placed myself under
Dr. Hunter's care, and adopted his system of
treatment for diseases of the longs, at which
time I was very low with consumption, so low,
indeed, that both myself and friends were hope
less of my recovery. I had used msny reme
dies prescribed by my family and other physi
cians whom I consulted, without obtaining any
thing more than mere palliation of my symp
toms, which were very distressing. I was
emaciated and feeble—unable to read more than
a few paragraphs without exhaustion, and Buf
fered night and day from harassing cough, pro
fuse night-sweats, and bnming hectic fever. I
used Dr. Hunter's treatment for a period of five
months, and steadily improved from the very
outset. My distressing symptoms disappeared,
and I rapidly gained flesh and strength, until I
presented sn appearance of robust health, w hich
has remained good during the intervening pe
riod of nearly five years. I believe I owe the
preservation of my life and the good health I
have since and still enjoy, solely to Dr. Hun
ter's efforts, and trust that those who consult
him during his visit to Macon will be as much
benefitted by his treatment as I have been.

I)r. J. .1. Hunter, Xeie Orteane, ho. :
Dead Sib—It again becomes my agreeable
duty to report to you the favorable progress of
our patient. Mr*. Montano, under your treat
ment by Inhalation.
Her steady and uninterrupted improvement
from the commencement, boa fully established
it in my confidence, and I believe she owes her
present existence to it alone, as every other
means we hsd used failed to either palliate ber
symptoms or check the progress of the disease
in the least. Her Sweats and Fever have en
tirely disappeared, und she is daily gaining flesh
and strength.
I will continue to report to yon weekly, her
condition and progress.
I remain, very truly and respectfully,
