From the Memphis Appeal.
“If We Knew.*’
If we knew the woe nml heart-nehc
Waiting for it? down the road,
If our lips could taste the worm-wood.
If our hack? could feel the load ;
Would we waste to-day in wishing
For a time that ne’er can be ;
Would we wait in “11011 impatience
For our ships to come from sea?
If we knew the baby fingers
Pressed against the window-pane,
Would be eold and stitf to-morrow —■
Jjevcr trouble us again:
Would the bright eyes of our darling
Catch the frown upon our brow ?
Would the print of rosy fingers
Vex us then as they do now ?
Ah, tln se little ice-cold lingers,
How they point our memories back,
To the hasty words aud actions
Strewn along our backward track!
How these little hands remind us,
As in snowy grace they lie,
Not to scatter thorns—but roses—
For our reaping bye -and-bye !
Btrange we never prize the music
Till the sweet-voiced bird has down ;
Strange that we should slight the violets
Till the lovely (lowers arc gone;
Strange that summer skies and sunshine
Never seem one-half so fair
As when winter’s snowy pinions
Shake their white down in the air!
Lips from which the seal of silence
None but God can roll away,
Never blossomed in such beauty
As adorns the mouth to-day ;
And sweet words that freight our memory
With tlielr beautiful perfume,
Come to us in sweeter accents
Through the portals of the tomb.
Let us gather up the sunbeams
Lying all along our path ;
Let us keep the wheat and roses,
Casting out the thorns and chats;
Let us find our sweetest comfort
In the blessings of to-day;
With a patient hand removing
All the briars from our way.

CERTIFICATE,
Prince William Cos., Ya„ S-pt. 1807.
Mrs P. A. Beebe: — l had been suffering wu li
chills and fevei for eight- en months, and for the
first twelve I had an ague every other day, and
for the next six 1 had what the doctors calle 1
the “thirl-day ague and fever.” Avery large
ague-cake had formed in my side,. I was under
ti •» treatment Lest, physieitnis constantly,
but was never clear of chilis longer than fen
days °*. a time during the eighteen months. The
disease had completelv prostrated u>ti and every
remedy I could hear of tailed. I gave up, think
ing I must die, when a friend advised rue to try
“Dr. 11. A. Horton’s Miasma Antidote.” I pro
cured two bot ties ad commenced taking. A> and
to my great-surprise my chills stopped, and I
h-ivn not had one since I took the first tlose. My
h -alrit is now entirely restored ; the ngue-Cike
is gone, in fact 1 feel “as good as new.” Since
I have been cur. <l, « hick lias been some five
or six months. I have been staying at the place
where I first took ti e chills, and whicu place is
considered a sickly neighborhood, but ] have
hau no indications of a return of the chills. In
conclusion I will state that 1 followed the direc
tions in taking the Antidote as near as was pos
sible.
Yours truly',

Mrs. P. A. Bkkbk:— 1 touple of
bottles of Dr. Horton’s Miasma Am. tote from
your agent, Mr. J. T. Leacltman, for the use of
one of my patients, who was afflicted with thc
worst case of chills I ever saw. The cure was
sn remarkable that I procured his eeitificate,
and enclose it to \ou.
I was cured from a slight attack of chills
which succeeded a spell of sickness, bv taking
a half bottle of the Antidote. I have seen it
tried in a half dozen eases, and have never
known it to fail. My belief is that ii is even
mo> - e than it is rccomended for.
