Strange Dreams.
There is something totally incomprehensible in
the operations of the mind while the corporeal
powers are lost in -lumber. Sometimes the most
terrible adventures are encountered ill the realms
of Morpheus, iu which the dreamer performs the
work of a lifetime perhaps in half an hour; and
again in dreams revelations aremadeof tilings past
and tilings in the future. Os this kind of dreams
we heard an instance lost Tuesday. A subscriber
of ours dreamed that lie paid Ids subscription for
last year, and a year in advance; and it actually
I came to pass! Wonder if any others ever dream—
especially those who owe for more than two years’
subscription ?
More News.
L East week we had to correct an erroneous report
■a Hie Madison Auditok concerning occurrences in
■ovingtnn. The following from the Griffin Star
■f-till more startling than tin- Auditor’s news. For
Bln-comfort of the friends of our Sheriff we are
Hiippy to be able to assure them that it is all news
■a him. if the Star will twinkle through our local
leo 1 iiinn of last week the light will illuminate its
■tarkness so Hint it can reflect the truth. This is
Ike Star’s announcement :
“Row Nevii Covinuton. —From a gentleman
klin lias just returned from Newton county, we
ram that a serious difficulty occurred near Cov
tigtun, on Tuesday last. From our informant,
pc gather the following:
f It seems that a crowd of negroes, armed, were
prowling around the country, stealing, when tlie
presiding Judge, Green, ordered tlicir arrest. The
fti- rili; with a Bailiff'and two or three others, went
liter them, when his party was attacked by the tic*
krocs, and the Bailiff's head split open with an axe,
|ti the hands of a negro. The negro was instantly
killed, and tlie Sheriff and ills party compelled to
[ini. The Judge ordered tbe Sheriff to summon a
kosse and go after them, and on yesterday he. sue-
arresting quite a number of these desper-
Jdoes.
[ As court is now in session, wo trust the guilty
parties may have a trial, and get the full benefit of
lie law.—Griffin Stab, 27th iust.
[ This is dreadful ; but the Atlanta Constitution
iclls the story slightly modified, thnsly ;
! “Ml'iuiek or a SnEKirr. —A report reached this
fity yesterday that the Sheriff of Newton county
lad been killed at Conyers, by an infuriated negro,
[lie weapon used was an axe. We await further
fcrticulars.”
I Now, gentlemen, permit us to remark that your
■porter from this section, is aptly described In the
illowing Hudihrastic couplet:
I “He must have optics rare, I ween,
I To see what, is not to be seen.”
I “SIRS, YF. ARE BRETHREN.”
■ Can't somebody suggest a basis for the set
■mient of the long quarrel between the New

■uful to sec the bitterness they exhibit to-
each other. There is public plunder
