IC 'ton bright stars which gem the night
Do such a blissful dwelling sphere,
Where kindred spirits rc-nnite,
Wlnvin deuth has torn asunder hero;
How sweet it were at once to die,
And leave this blighted orb afar—
Mixed soul with soul, to cleave the sky,
And soar away from star to star.
But O! how dark, how drear, how lone
„.JYoulil seem the brightest world of bliss,
It, wandering through each radiant one,
We fail’d to find the loved of this!
If there no more the ties should twine,
Which death's cold hand alone can sorer,
Ah ! then these stars in mockery shine,
" More hateful, as they shine forever.
It cannot !*■! each hope nod fear
That lights the eye or clouds the brow,
ifcoclaiins there is a happier sphere
Than the bleak world that holds us now 1
There is a voice which sorrow beers,
When heaviest weighs life's galling chain;
'Tie heaven that whispers, “ Dry thy tears ;
The pure in heart shall meet again ! r>

Full oft do I dream of the Beautiful Land
That lies o'er the mystical river—
And my soul seems to follow a beckoning hand
That guides ine along 'till my forehead seems
fanned
By the breeze which is fragrant forevor.
And the sorrows of earth, like a hideous dream
Dissolve in the sunlight of heaven—
Anil I wander by many a radiant stream,
Whose musical waters flash blight in the
gleam
Os a day that fades not into even—
And magical blooms that are wondrously fair,
Lie spread out like visions before me—
And a spell of enchantment is borne on the air
That steals from the heart every shadow of
care,
And sheds sweet tranquillity o'er mo.
There Mercy and Love wander, clasped hand
in hand—
And Faith twines her wreath of Immortelles;
And the sky—by God's rainbow of tenderness
$ spanned,
Reflects, on its bosom the Beautiful Land—
Its angels, and glittering portals.
Bottled Drops of Wit and Wisdom.

The $l5O/XM) Church of the Good Shepherd,
erected at Hartford, Connecticut, by the widow
of Col. Colt, will be consecrated on Christmas.
-r-JJxeAanffe.
There is something suggestive in the idea
that the money made from manufacturing
Colt's murderous missiles should be used to
build a modern religious pagoda in Puritania.
Surely, “Sharpe’s Rifle” Beecher should offi
ciate at the consecration ceremonies. Rifles
and revolvers are fit emblems of Puritan
piety and its most popular proselyters,
swhile it professes the faith of the
of Peace. Why should not the profits
of their manufacture then, be their prophets,
since they reject the pacific teachings of the
prophets of old? And why should Colt not
have bequeathed a tithe at least of his wealth
to-tlmee pseudo-gospel-mongerg whose satanic
teachings stirred up, infuriated and prolonged
the war that made tne chief market for Colt's
fire-arms’? We think Colt merely imitated the
lawyer who left hi* estate to the Idiot Asylums,
saying it wus from fools he made it, and it was
but right be should return it to them.—Ban

Lany ysars ago, th* writer of the:® lines r.ad an ittvafid physician, while visiting the
Island of St, CroLz for their health, experienced and vritnecsed many surprising and
beneficial effects of the Bum there produced upon many cf the invalids who were (like
ourselves) seeking health ; and, upon inquiry and investigation, obtained a full history
cf its medicinal virtues. He was delighted and surprised, and after his own recovery,
which soon occurred, determined, if possible, to procure the sole right to manufacture
and sell it in the United States.
The result of his labors was a glorious success for himself and suffering humanity,
for the celebrated PLANTATION BITTERS was thus made known to the world. PLAN
TATION BITTE3S being an article cf real merit, founded upon now principles, and
relying wholly upon the vegetable world for its medicinal effects, worked a rapid revolu
tion in the history of medicine, and became as a household word all over the civilized
world. The cabalistic S. T.—l3GO—Z. was a talisman of health, and the demand for
the PLANTATION BIT7LSS soon far exceeded the abilities of the proprietors to supply.
Notwithstanding the large importation cf St. Croix Bum, made expressly for the com
pcuaJing of these Bitters, the quantity was inadequate. It therefore became necessary
that arrangements upon an extensive scale abroad should at once be made, and an agent
was dispatched to St. Thomas for that purpose. He was fortunate in securing and
leasing several plantations on some of the largest and most productive estates on the
island. Houses, stills and presses were erected as if by magic, which utterly »aston
ished the natives.” The services of experienced men and natives of the island wore pro
cured, and very soon the proprietors of the PLANTATION EITTEP.S were in a position
to supply their laboratory with all the perfectly pure St. Croix Bum needed in manufac
turing the SRSAT BTSPBfTfC TONIC AND INYISOEATOB. The above cut represents
the natives crushing the sugar-cane and otherwise preparing it for the stills and presses.
As an antidote te Fever and Ague, Intermittent and Malarious Fevers, Dyspepsia, and
c„-.er k.r.—d i.-cuccs, tue use of the PLANTATION PIT TLBS is unsuroassed in the
history #f the world. Over five miUin bott’es are d-'rpcecd of annually. They are
