It is a dull day in the Sun office,

is not discovered. But in this case .
w*e are for Grady, and second the

If Mr. Grady, the talented and a •
gresxive editor of the Atlanta Con
stitution, thinks that the North hes
itates to accept ami return the fra
ternal greeting of the new South, lie
does not understand the North, aid
needs to spend a holiday in this sec
tion.—Boston Herald.
The Conyers Solid South pays our
editor this compliment: “Col Si
Ilawkii s has made the state of Gcor
gia a wise, faithful and satisfactory
legislator. He has represented old
Newton with the fidelity of a hero,
and the ability of a statesman. His
election is hut another lauie) to the
brow of his county’s honor.”
A day or two before the New Eng
land dinner someone asked Mr.
Henry A\. Grady, of tbs Atlanta ( on
stitution, what he intended to say in
his speech. “The Lord only knows/'
he replied. “I have thought of a
thousand things to say, five hundred
of which if J say they will murder
me when I get back home, and if I
say the other five hundred they will
murder me at the banquet.’—Tri
bune.
The Atlanta correspondent of the
Augusta News pays the legislatme
this compliment: The universal ex
pression here is that the legislature
has worked earnestly, faithfully and
wail- One hundred and seventy-five
representatives and forty-four sena
tor* nev*r assembled in any State in
this Union and conducted themselv- a
more becomingly t an the legislature
which recessed on Dec. 22. In point
of sobriety, in gentlemanlike couduet
everywhere, they have never beeu
surpassed.
Once in a while it becomes neces
sary for a newspaper man to get him
self into trouble by making predic
tions. So here goes: Senator A. I r .
Colquitt w II succeed himself ns Ut
S. Senator in 1888. Governor Gor
dou will be endorsed by a re election
the same year. In 1820 Senator
Joseph E. Brown will, upon Iris own
motion, retire to private life, and
Gov. Gordon will again be returned
to the U. S. Souate In the year
1890, or perhaps in 1888, ex-Gover
nor Henry D. McDaniel will be a
candidate for Congress to succeed
Hon. John D. Stewart. We could
,..,im;woT's anci name
the men who will probably be candi
dates for several other positions,
such ae state senator from the 27th,
a member of the House of Represen
tatives from Newton, etc., also, who
will be candidates in 1888 for Ordi
nary and other county offices, but
the foregoing are sufficient for the
present.
Senator John A. Logan died in
Washington recently. He had hcon
sick about one week, and no one out
side of bis immediate family knew of
hie condition. The Charleston News
and Courier in speaking of his death
says : Death is sudden and Burpris
ing. It belongs to the region of the
wholly unexpected, aud, perhaps,
because it is difficult to many of us
to realize that they who were mark
ed men in public life in the civil war
are now well advanced in yeais. Gen.
Logan was a peculiar compound,—
No personal dishonesty was ever im
puted to him. Nor was he mean or
jealous. Vigorous in intellect, des
perately iu earnest always, in tem
perament fiery aud impetuous, he
scorned restraint and gave scant
heed, to us ige. But he was impar
tial in these respects. The canons
of grammar were ns cheerfully viola
ted t.g were the rules of war or the
etiquette of deflate. Gen. Logan
wa& an uncompromising partisan,
but he had a good heart. There
was nothing malevolent in his char
acter. The country could far better
have spared some reputed saint, or
actual iceberg, in our politics than
hot headed, ambitious, volcanic, hut
able, faithful and generous “Black
Jack,” of Illinois.
Fashion may change in some
things but p.n old well tried remedy
is grappled with hooks of steel. Such
is White’s Cream Vermifuge, which
has a larger sale than any so called
remedy, because it never fails to ex
pel worms from a child who is their
victim. Therefore do not defer its
use, hut relieve your child speedily
by a dose of White s Creatu Vermi

New Yoik Sun: Kditor Henry W.
Grady, of the Atlanta Constitution,
who delivered the famous speech on
‘ The New South” lit the dinner of
the New Kiig’and Soeiety on Wed
nesday night, and which made him a
I national reputation, has piercing
black eyes, raven hair, a charmingly
frank minim r. and i j eculiurly grace
ful hia in;,' as an i.rutor. When lie
arose to deliver liis speech lie looked
upon the faces of over 300 strangers,
He was the liis! Southerner to speak
at a dinner of the society since the
war, ami before him were men w hose
names are s n ityms of legal acumen,
culture, oml wedtli. All watched
him intently. Gen. Sherman and
l)r. Tain age linl preceded him with
speedio highly eulogistic of the j
Ninth, and they too closely scanned j
the earnest 1 mhing and dignified
Southerner ns in well modulated
tones, he began his spuerli. He
hadn’t said six lines before the as
semblage broke out in a storm of
cheers. When Mr. Grady spoke of
Ahialiam Lincoln as one of the great
types of American manhood, a migh
ty shout went up, and when ho raid
“Dear to me are tho home of my
childhood and the traditions of my
people,” the applause of the New Ell
glaudcrs hiouglit a happy smile to
his face aud an added brightness to
liis eyes. From that moment Mr.
Grady appeared at home. His pe
r nation was listened to in a silence
that betokened the intense interest
of his audience, and in closing, nil ii
lie asked the New Englanders if ti e
North would permit the prejudice of
war to remain in the hearts of the
conquerois when it had died in the
hearts of the conquered, the 300
throats thundered a “No 1” that must
have been heard a block away.—
When he sal down a cloud of nap
kins ascended over the heads of the
diners as they cheered him, the hand
whooped up “Way Down in Dixies;”
aud every one said that Mr. Grady
was a thumping fine fellow.
Renews Hi-.k Youth.—Mrs. Plice

ble story, the truth of which is
vouched for by the residents of the
town : “I am 73 years old, have been
troubled with kidney complaints and
lameness for many years ; could not
dress myself without help. Now I
am free from all pain and soreness,
and am able to do all my own house
work. I owe my thanks to Electric

When Stanley after years of untir

great African Explorer, the first
question the old hero asked was “Did
you bring any of Harper’s Old Nelson

exclaimed “Thank heaven!” and
