EDUCATE YOUR BOYS.
In a recent sermon in Augusta
Rev. W. A. Candler made use of the
following terse sentence : “Put mon
ey in your boy, not ou him.
To which the Augusta Chronicle
truly and forcibly says :
Theie is a word of good advice in
these few words. Money is an al
most omnipotent agent in the hands
of a man of knowledge and brains,
but it cannot give appreciation to
the ignoramus or luxury to the poor.
Iu the mad race for gain, boys are
put to work as soon as they cau read,
write aud cipher, and taught how to
make a living but not how to live.—
There is no more pathetic sight than
a man of wealth who has no idea
how to enjoy his money aud cannot
make it a blessing either to himself
or his friends.
Every father who is able to do so
owes it to his boy to educate him.
Many boys when they are old enough
to go to college are allowed by their
fathers to choose between going into
the store or completing their educa
tion. On the one hand is two or
three years more of toiling over
books, aud on the other comparative
freedom, the attraction of business
and the temptatiob of a salary. In
HU'aT'aW'iW W 1 1
"‘ he o^ im „ B^ w be.
And yet ten years later that boy will
feel that his father did him a grave
injustice in not making him continue
at school aud college. He may have
made a shrewd and successful busi
ness man, but he would have been a
“better one had his education been
finished. His whole life is not spoilt
in his store or factory, and when be
mingles among educated men and
women he feels keenly what lie has
Jost—and lost forever. Not one
man in ten thousand Ims the lime or
pluck to begin at thirty-five and learn
what he neglected in his teens. This
fruitful seed time comes but once,
and, neglected then, it is lost forever.
The summer holidays are drawing
to a close, aud anew school and bus
iness year is about to open. Hun
dreds of boys are now considering
whether to go to college or go into
business. To every boy who can do
bo, ive say go to college aud learn ai)
you can. To every father we say. j
educate your boys. It is a capital
in life which cannot be taken from
him and which no reverses can de I
stroy. Knowledge is power ; igno
ranee means subordination.
The insolence of the insurance
companies which have declared that
they will not accept risks on cotton
baled in other than jute bagging, is
refreshing. One would suppose that
tile insurance business was conduct
ed on principles of philanthropic
benefaction, instead of on the sole
desire of profit for herself. It is a
fine spectacle of bewitching impu
dence to see an insurance concern,
which is tho servant and not the
master of its policy holders, dicta
ting terms to those on whom it must
rely entirely for every dollar it
makes. —Greensboro Herald & Jour
Editors, as a rule, are kind heart
ed and liberal. Anexcliungs tells of
a subscriber to a certain paper who
died aud left fourteen years’ sub
scription unpaid. The editor ap
peared at the grave as the lid was
being screwed down for the last time,
and put in a linen duster, a tlier
moineter, a palm leaf fau and a re
ceipt fur making ice.
Tom Watsou is giving the people
of eastern Georgia some fine Cleve
land and Tlmrmau speeches. Mr.
M ats n was put on the democratic
electoral ticket to do just this sort of
work. He is the first of the twelve
men on the ticket who has realized
why he was nominated. We hope
the others will wake up before the
sixth of November.
There wid be a cotton picker on
exhibition at the Macon fair that is
said to be perfect. It will pick as
much cotton in one day as 100 hands,
so said, and it will be as clean as that
picked by hand.
Are you restless at night and har
assed by a bud cough f Use Dr. J. j
H. Mcleun's Tar Wine Lung Balm,
it will secure you sound sleep, aud j
effect a prompt and radical cure.
Ninety nine business men out of
every hundred who advertise their
bushie.s vigorously, make money by
it, to one that loses. The statistics
wi.l show this to be true.
Sick headache, wind on the atom
ic’t, biliousness, nausea, are prompt
ly and ugreeahly buuisbed by Dr. J.
H. McL, au’s Little Liver aud Kid
ney l’illcts. 25e. a vial.
Thera are 15 daily newspapers in
New Yolk Pity supporting Cleve
land and Thurman, while there are
only three for Harrison and Morton.
That is a good indication.
\Yli n nature falters and requires
help, recruit her enfeebled energies
with Dr. .1. H. McLean’s Strength
ening Cordial and Blood Purifier.
11,00 per bottle.
The young woman who advertises |
for a husband is continually coming |
to grief. She never experiences any j
trouble in getting the husband. All I
the trouble comes afterward.
Children will freely take Dr. J. H.
McLean’s Tar Wine Lung Balm, un
like (-ought syrups, it contains no
opium will soothe aud heal any dis
ease of the throat or lungs quicker
(ban any other remedy.-Dec. 13.
Hon. H. 11. Carlton continues to
write editorial letters to tho Banner- j
i Watchman urging the farmers to.
tight the bagging and other trusts .
iby getting up a little trust among
J themselves.
Exposure to rough weather, get
ting wet, living in damp localities,]
are favorable to the contraction of
diseases of the kidneys aud bladder.

jof all kidney and liver trouble, use
that valuable remedy, Dr. J. 11. Me

In the Jong and hotly contested
§2,000 money rule case last week a
verdict was rendered in favor of the
respondent or defendant, Mrs. J. T.
Eckles. While meeting defeat, Col.
Jas. F. Rogers, of Covington, should
feel compensated for the way in
which his argument was praised.—
He concluded for the plaintiff's, How

very best speeches heard in the

BAGGING
EICHT+CEHTS!!
Realizing the terrible outrage perpetrated
upon the southern cotton planters by the
BAGGING TRUST,
in putting all cotton bagging so high, just at
the opening of the cotton when it is
too late for the farmers to help themselves, and
it being too late for Congress even though
willing, through our Southern
Representatives, to give any aid. We have
determined that, so far as our customers who
owe us are concerned, we will step in and help
them share the burden by making Bagging
- -~-.~
Last Year's Prices, or Say

settlement of notes or accounts. We will do

to the bale.
Remember, This offer is lor 30 Days Only,

does not matter where you buy the bagging,
or at what price you pay for it. We will al

With our best wishes for the final overthrow
of the Bagging Trust, we remain your friends,
