THE COUNTRY EDITOR.
Thera is un idea in ilu* minds of
many wlio ought to know b.uci tuat
the “country editor" .lauds on the
lowest platform of Ihe piufosMun,
end that he wlio is employed in nu\
sagacity, no matter how liumlre, on
metropolitan journal, is hi* wop •
lior. There is no greater mistake.
An editor who has he.d important
chair* iu metropolitan cilices, un
♦ho has the reputation of being
successful, remarked : "1 do t>"t
hesitate to w i itc ihc lcudei* of in
portanl journal. Inti wou.d treni
bis to undertake the management ol
a village ncwtqiuper.
There is no place in the profusion
SO difficult to (ill as that of a coun
try editor. In cities a man who <a i
do one depaitment well I) tin ts him
self about no other. Nor need lie;
he gets the knack of his *>f.eciulty,
and continues at it. Jk.it the coun
try editor must he good in all depart
meats; he must lie able to disc in
the trend of the public mind in poli
tics, religion am] social topics; lie
must discuss agriculture and anarchy
with equal precision ; lie must be tiu
ant iu polemics and politics; he must
he able to write of the president and
pumpkins; he must mind men <i
high degree and des lend to things ol
Jow estate ; in short, he must lie ;.n
“all round man.” It is this that
makes the posit ion of a country edi
tor so hard to fill ; it is this training
that makes the good country editor
such a splendid manager of a motr -
politnn daily. There is no p'oee, ex
cept in a country office, where such
•ll round training can be had.
The position of a country edit >r is
not held in the esteem it should be.
If a family can only afford one paper
let that be tbo home paper, tor it
concerns a family more to know what
is being done in its own county than
it does to know the news of distant
places. The city papers cannot give,
and it does not pretend to give, the
local news that its country readers
must Lave ; but the good country pa
per does give a pretty fair epitome
of the world’s news
No othei publication can supply
the place of a good local paper. I!
both cannot !.•—stained- if either
tffe city journal O’, country nowspa
per must go, lot it he the former ;
for nothing can supply the place of
the local paper.— Pensacola Gazette.

It is understood that Hon. G. Y.
Tigoar, of Muscogee, will introduce
a bill at t! ic summer session of the
Legislature looking to the protection
of cotton planters in Georgia. It
will be “a bill entitled an act to pro
vent tbe trunportation of seed cot
ton after dark and to define the pun
jshment for the same.” The bill juo
bibits the hauling or carrying of seed
cotton during all hours of the niglit
except in eases of farmers hauling
cotton from the field or to tho gin.
The punishment will be a line and
imprisonment, half the line to go to

When men labor because they love

Men who make success on the larin
achieve that success from love of the

2£&*Do you want an article in your house

make money rapidly and safely? If so,
investigate the business.
The Reason Why.
W X-Z X EB
—The National—
GARMENT * CUTTER
So Universally Adopted ?
1. Because it teaches the household
(without complicated and obscure lessons)
an art that enables them to cut all classes
of garments for men, women and children
including draperies and trimmings and
showing their general make-up in the very
latest styles.
2. Because it enables the ladies to wear
the neatest garments, made by their own
hands, os well as making them self-reliant
through life.
3. Because it is absolute correct -giving
a nerpect fit in all cases; thus saving time
and wa&tc of goods which generally attends
the cutting ot garments
4. —Because it is so simple and its con
struction so plain, anyone can use it.
o.- Because when once instructed it be
comes an indispcnsible article in every
household.
6 —Because in no case whore the Cutter
has been used, has it failed to give un
bounded satisfaction, growing in favor in
stead of rendering itseb unpopular.
7 -Because it makes the sewing machine
a source of profit, and is worth many times
its cost to any family.
B— Because, in short, it is the ne*plus
ultra of all systems of cutting, and never
fails to please wherever introduced.
f) Because agents, both ladies and gen
tlemen, can make money fast and easy
teaching it.
10. —Because we have the whole civilized
world to operate in, and can give and will
give agents the greatest opportunity to
make money fast and easy ever offered.

Mr. Henry Grain) . —After seven

any system now in use.
