ty ? „
Within that .tiiuo the Madison \ a
rietv Works have been built and pul
in operation. The Madison Guano
Factory and Oil Mill has been pro
jetced, built and ready for the fall
season, within the lu.;t three months.
Each of these enterprises have a cap
ital stock of $50,000. Rucker’* main
;i,oth v,-alehouse has also been built
within the last three mouths This
.building is valued at about SIO,OOO,
besides two storerooms being built
,by Mr. C. M. Fallow. We had al
most forgotten the mammoth gin.
jiery erected iu guy city by the Gale
,City Oil Company. But we don’t
count that anyway; we are only
speaking of home industries, built
l>y home people.
Besides our enterprises, there have
a number of residences built
duriug the summer, that add to ou:
wealth and go to beautify our city.
Besides our wealth in dollars and
cents we have the most elegant and
hospitable homes to be found in any
where ; we have the prettiest, sweet
est and most fascinating ladies, both
misses and matrons; wo have well
.fitted churches, zealous and consci
entious ministers of the gospel; we
Lave fine schools, the .teachers of
which are most highly esteemed. — I
Our wealth is more equally distiib
ted than any other place under the
sun.
Dou't be envious, Brother Si. We
know you have a good town and
county, but you must acknowledge
that we are just a “leetle” ahead.—
Madisonian.
We glory in tho prosperity of our
sister county and are willing to ac
cept as true every word of the above,
but will our brother pardon us if we
ask, how it is that on April Ist 1881)
the increase in taxable property was
only $25,397 over that of 1888, and
then on Aug. 30th, 1889, it had in
creased to $150,000? Where was
that extra $124,013 when the people
of Morgan made tax returns this
year ? If these “home industries,
built by home poople’’ came direct
jfrom the pockets of the citizeus of
Morgan, why did they not give the
same in when they made their re
turns? We only went by the returns
as> published and they put the in
crease $25,397.
We are not given to much boast !
-iug, but will remark that Covington
has most of the attractions and tul
vantages claimed for Madison, and
more besides. IVe have a system of
public schools, a street car liue two
|miles in length, iron bridges, $40,-
000 court house, SIO,OOO opera house,
several mammoth ginneries, city
parks, etc. A $20,000 cotton com
is on the eve of being put up.
Stock is being rapidly taken for a
.$150,000 cotton factory.
Our Alliance fi lends will secure a
charter in ji fey? days to construct
and operate cotton seed oil mills,
guano factories, warehouses and oth
er manufactories. Besides these, ter
,ra cotta works will he started. Many
qthpr movements are ou foal and en
terprises in existence in this county
.too numerous to mention. We have
gold, granite, paint, mould sand,
etc. We have all kinds of wood and
the largest amount of available wa
ter power to drive machinery of any
county in these United States. We
might say more, but this is enough.

1889. To our Alliance friends and
all others desiring to use Cotton
Bagging:
Concurring in the general belief
that the early Cotton will bring high
est prices this year, on account of
light stocks at home and abroad, and
recognizing the fact that our order
for the Sibley’s Manufacturing Com
pany’s Regular Cotton Bagging (sam
ple on band) cannot be filled until
September 10 or 15th, owing to nec
essary changes in machinery, also,
the delay upon the part of other cot
ton bagging manufacturers to ship
their goods, we have made arrange
ments to furnish at once, in any
quantity, Cotton Duck Bagging (sam
ple on hand), which is only two inch,
es narrower than the former, and
weighs just as much (5-8 lbs. to the
yard). It is acceptable to the cotton
trade generally, and is half cent per
yard cheaper. We can sell at 12Jc.
per yard in any quantity, nnd half a
cent less in 10,000 yard lots.
Yours very truly.
HULL & TOBIN.
Shippers will please bear in mind
that our Factories have agreed to
pay 10c. per hundred extra for all
cottons packed in any kind of cotton
wrap, which of course will conqiej
exporters in this market to meet it.
THE COTTON SEASON.
The following open letter explains
itself : As the Cotton Season is now
about to open, we beg to call your at
tentiou to the fact that our facilities
for the handling and storage of the
same are unsurpassed in this city or
section. Giving, as we do, our en.
tire time to the business—each de
partment being under the immediate
personal supervision of one of the
firm—wo cau offer ouy patrons the
assurance that our Account Sales will
bo equalled by but few and exceeded
by none ; aud in ibis connection we
refer with pride to our reputation,
unquestioned in this City, i. e., get
ting the Highest Prices and return
ing the best weights.
In view of the unprecodentei) crop,
now about assumed, we would strong
ly advise getting the crop to market
| soon as possible iu order to catch the
1 present high prices, as the market is
inevitably bound to go lower just as
any kind of a reliable estimate can
be obtained.
Soliciting a share of your business,
and inviting comparisons of returns,
i either iu this or other markets, we
are, Yours truly,
