An Elegant Attraction.
The Rotn°o and Juliet company
will bo at Music Hull Thursday
night, March 26th, with one of
the strongest companies on the
road. They carry a beautiful set
of scenery especially adapted to
their play and their performance
meets with much praise werever
they play,
The company is composed of
thirteen people and they are all
good in their respective roles.
Shakesperian plays are again
becoming popular with theatre
going people and Mr. F. A. Dur
kee and his company will undoubt¬
edly please the Covington people.
The play is instructive and it
will be worth anyoues time and
money to come.

Rivers High From Rains.
On account of the excessive
heavy rains of the past few weeks,
the stream in Newton county have
been exceedingly high and some
impassable.
Yellow, Alcova and South rivers
have been very high and some
damage reported along the low
lands.
For two days this week, Alcovey
was impassable at Dabney’s
bridge and several narrow escapes
from drowning were reported.

Judge Routi made a most favor
able impression on all. This was
the first time he has presided in
Newton since his appointment as
Judge of ’be St. Mountain circuit
by Governor Terrell, He presided
with absolute impartiality, dis¬
patched buai.iess rapidly and by
his courtesy and agreeablenese of
manner, won many friends ull
over tile county.

on public works.

Judge Roan granted a charter at
this term of court to the “Farmers
Union Mercantile and Supply Co. > I
of Stewart. The incorporators are
F. D. Ballard, R. W. Ballard and
Geo. W. Woodruff.
The court granted a charter
changing the name of the “Colored
Orphan’s Home,’’ to the “Reed
Home and Industrial School,’’ a
corporation located in Covington,
its object being to take care of
needy colored boys and girls.
Thirty-two misdemeanor cases
were handed down to the County
Covington’s Cotton Market.
Good cotton is bringing 9 % cents
in Covington today.

tor this year, Col. Kb T. Williams,
of Atlanta. The mere announce¬

all over Newton.
Col Williams is one of Atlanta’s
most prominent young attorneys
and one of the State’s most gifted
efttsetts. He is a forceful and ele¬
gant speakers, n student of litera¬
ture, and is sure to capture
one with the magic of his oratory
as he portrays the gallant
ments of the men of tlie south who
followed the flaget the Confederacy
from Sumpter to Appomattox.

Col. Williams formerly lived in
Augusta and represented Rich¬
mond county in the legislature in
1890 and serving on the Ju¬
diciary Committee and several
other important ones. While a
member of the Legislature, lm in¬
troduced the original bill to revise
he Criminal Laws which had not
been dot.e in 70 years and passed
'.he bill. This bill was subse¬
quently passed with the Civil
Code revision added.
Those who fail to hear Mr. Wil¬
liams on this occasion will miss a
treat.
As Memorial Day falls on Sun¬
day this year, the ladies have de¬
cided to hold the exercises the
day following, Monday, April
27th.
Much more interest will be
manifested in the exercises this
year than formerly. The Military
Company has been invited to take
part iu the parade and it is
thought that they will accept the
invitation.
