SALOONS PAY ATLANTA WELL
City Government Collects $ 116 ,-
600 Annually From Them.
Atlanta, Ga., June 28 —The
revenue of the city government
from the whisk}- traffic has beefi
ascertained. The figures are m
teresting, as they give some idea
of the amount of intoxicants con
sinned in Atlanta.
The revenue of the city govern¬
ment from the whisky traffic at
present is $116,000 per annum,
and it is probable that the amount
will be increased to 1120,000 be¬
fore the end of the year.
i he liquor licenses were granted
by the general council during the
session of last Monday afternoon,
*nd they have all been approved
by Mayor Woodward.
Following is a statement of the
sources from which tin- *116,000
is obtained:
One hundred and three retail
whisky and beer saloons, each
paying a license of $250 per an
num, *9,000.
Twenty-two wholesale liquor
houses, each paying $200 per an
num, *4,400.
One wholesale beer house, pay
ing a license of 200 per annum,
$200.
The aggregate of these totals is
$116,600.

IN COTTON CROP
Says the Southern Cotton As¬
sociation-Based on
Special Reports.
Atlanta, Ga ; June 22 —Re¬
ports from the correspondents of
the Southern Cotton Association
throughout the cotton belt, based
upon existing conditions, indicate
that the yield of cotton for the
season of 1905-06, will be 10,285
876 commercial bales.
The percentage of estimated re
duction in yield by states as com
pared with the lust crop follows:
Alabama 7.39; Arkansas 22.16;
Florida 22.17 ; Georgia 28 11; In
dian Territory 21,98;
25.43; Mississipp 27.25; Oklahoma
25-70; North Carolina 30.70;
South Carolina 29.45; Tennessee
18.0; Texas 28 96; vurious 20.0.
