Bemabkahle and Great Cube of
Diabetes—(Scoak in the Urine)--By
Dk. J. A. Jones.—F< r nearly three
years I was sick unto death with ton*
dreaJful distase diabetes—sugar in the
urine—duiin B wlncU time my sufferings
Language could notdescntie. My disease
was contracted in September, 1870 —
nearly three years ago— while in the cm-!
ploy of Coi. £ imund Harrison, in Mout-
f ornery, Ala., who knows of my case well.
was treated by all rue best physicians
of the principal Southern cities, and
neariy allot Uiem gave up my utae us
incurable, after treating me for weeks >r
months. I also tried tbe mountain uir
of Hiraiintfhsm, Ala., and tried bitters t
and ail kinds of patent medicines. Noth- 1 p
lug reieLtal my disease, or touched the
loot of it, or changed iny urine, which
was white, and soon after being voided
in the sun enstalized into sugar. 1 had
to get up every hour during the night to
drink and void water. Everything I ate
and drank turned into sugury urine; and
thus, by ounces, I was wasted and re
duced from a strong, healthy, stout man
of 170 pounds to a skeleton of 09 pounds.
Forty-eight hours alter I coimiit need Dr.
Jones’ treatment, my urine changed io u
natural color, with the natural odor, and
iu a tew lays my pains and ills lelt me,
I led as wi ll as I ever did iu my life;
have good, natural appetite, natural ami
regular bowels, and am gaining my
former aciivity and strength daily, but
my teeth are loose and discolored from
the bad effects of tUe mercury, iron,
arsenic, etc., given me before I saw Dr.
Jones. I have not taken over au ounce
of medicine irom Dr. Jones, and it was
pleasant to take, and he never changed
his remedy, and he gave me but one
small bottle >f tbut, but it went to the
very spot, and I and axy wife both saw
that 1 was cured, and I felt and s<w it
after ibe first twenty-four hours’ use of
Dr. Jone>’medicine. I feel that I owe
mv life t > tbe skill of this great physician,
for mv shroud wss prepared and at my
bedside, aud my disease was pronounced
incurable bv so many physicians, some
of them stating that no person bad ever
been cured of diabetes.

li is a notorious tact that even In colleges little at-

Mr. Stephens supplies this knowledge. From tha
discovery ot Columbus to the establishment of
American Independence, he carries tho reader
quickly and gracefully through all ol .h* leading
events thit trauspired, developing t.i se faets In
olomal history which led to the organization and

" The book is apropos to the times. It Abounds in

“As a school compend this work ia a success In
every way. It gives r prouunenoe to leaning poliU»
cal events, aud these are made to subserve uo parti,
saa interes-wuatever. Tue book is abso'uteiy free
from sectional coloring, though it ia the production
of one ot the great leaders of Southern thought,
himself au actor in some ot the grand scenes he do*
scribes. From a ciose perusal of that part of the
boox commencing with the chapter coutaming an
account of Pierce's adiuiuiatratiou, and subsequent
chapters through to the beginning of tbe current
year, we are satisfied Mr. Stephens has given a true,
unvarnished, lively picture of the tremendous agi
tation through winch the country has passed during
two decades of her history.
Ali the prominent occurrences, civil an.' mill, -l
of the war between tne States, are sketched in rap. J,
but distinct outline. Mr, Stephens' style la easy,
terse, pure, graceful and strong. He makes no specia,
effort, as most of school-history writers do, to writ*
down to the comprehensiou*of lu* juvenile r< adera.
But there is nothing ia style or detsU that tha
simplest intellect cannot grasp.’’
