'* A Bio Haul.—Tbe Cnthbert Appeal,
of the 23d, says some boys, while hunting
on Saturday previous, caught 28 ’possums
in one hoilow log—seven grown and
twenty-one young; and that the day was
cot a good one for ’possums.
The ship Agenor cleared from Savan
nah Thursday last with 4,630 bales of
cotton on board—the largest amount of
cotton ever before taken on any vessel at
that port. The cargo weighed 2,122,956
pounds, and was valued at $360,111.67.

Maj. R. G. Hood, of Hamilton, Go.,
on the 21st inst., while superintending
work in his mill, fell from the building
to the top of the dam, seventeen feet
from where he rolled off into the mod at
the bottom of the pond. His leg was
broken and spine slightly injured.
James Sutton, eighteen or twenty years
of age, killed Kit Bryant, seventy-six
years old, and wounded Zach Bryant in
the arm and side; in a melee on the 12th
icst., in Wilkes county. A commitment
trial was held Monday last, at which Sut
ton was held in a bond of $1,000 to ap
pear and anawer before the Superior
Court.
The Gainesville Eagle, Of the 23d, says
that last Sabbath evening two young men,
named Pruitt and Marks, of Jackson
county, were riding to church rather
briskly, when some boys by the roadside
frightened their horses, which dashed
suddenly, throwing their riders with
great force against a tree, very seriously,
if not fatally injuring both.
The Superior Court (Judge Buchanan
presiding) was in session in LaGrange
last week. The Reporter of the 23d
says: It is rumored that the Judge has
privately intimated to the Sheriff that if
some method is not adopted by which
the number of fleas in the court-house
ban be reduced, the people of Troup may
look in vain for a epru g term rf the
court hereafter.

Lane died of the same disease the next
day, and they were both buried in the
same grave on Wednesday. Mrs. Lane,
as her husband was expiring, exclaimed:
“Why shonld I grieve?—lam going with
him!”—seeming to be warned oi her ap
proaching dissolution. Thus have passed
away two most worthy people, who sleep
peacefully in the same tomb—a circum
stance which seldom occurs.
