ODE TO SPRING.
[From th* London ‘Tun "]
Guttle March, benignant tiling 1
Come with early froeta of Spring,
Come with rain, and oome with enow.
And with rain—oh, blow it—blow!
Come with froet-nipt flowers that try
All in. rain to ope an eye;
Come with sleet, and comg with gale,
Come—and be, of course, all haill
Come with sweet rheumatic twinge
To each stiffened nervous hinge—
Rack my back, my arms, my knees.
Corns and give tortures, please-
Come with chilblains, come with chape,
Come and think you’re welcome, p'rhape.
Come—correct me if I’m wrong—
Ain’t you coming it too strong ?
Ilf general.
—Tbs New York Tribune says that the taxes in this
country are heavier than are or ever were borne by
any other thirty milllona of peoplo on earth. Adding
our State and municipal to our National taxes, they
amount to not a cent less then $20 each, per annum,
for the whole American people.
—A musical discovery of singular interest, it said,
has just been made in Germany, nothing less than a
hitherto unknown opera of Mozart, “II Desperado,”
in three acts. Mozart composed the opera in his
eighteenth year (1774) for the theatre of Munich.
—The annual "Lady Godiva procesaion,” which has
always taken place in commemoration of the tradition
which Tennyson has Immortalised, will probably be
so far modified tnis year as to have the representative
Godiva dressed in the costume of the period.
—The Hamagia, a Hebrew paper published at Lyek,
in the province of Eastern Prussia, aays that sixty
Jewish families have determined to form a colony
near Jeffa, in Palestine.
—A bill for the construction of an air-line railroad
from Washington to New York will soon be reported
in Congress.
—The restaurant and oyster saloon keepers in Bos
ton have been notified to stop selling ale at their
counters.
—A young lady of California recently broke her
neck while resisting an attempt of a young man to
kiss bar. This furnishes a fearful warniug to young
ladies.
