There has been no recovery in the Uotton trade, but
on the other bund, the supplies still increasing, prices
became weaker and weaker. The* total sales to-day
have been 7,0U0 bales, taken in the proportion of 1,200
fbr export, 300 for Speculation, and 6,500 for the trade.
Iu Cottou to arrive sale, were made to New Orleaus,
basts of iliddliug, ship named, at 17>id; Pemam
firsts, ship named, at l«d; Bahia, fair March-April
ending, 18d; Western Madras, fair, January, sailing
13u- Bengal, fair, new, shipment January-Februsr.v,
tod; February-March, UJi- The imports have been
very large, having reached 139,049 bales, swelling the
present stuck to 652,840 bales, against 605,920 at tha
correspoding week of laBt year; while tha quantity re
ported at tea is 100,000 bales from America, and .576, -
000 bales from India, against 25,000 bales from Ameri
ca, 218,090 bales from India, aud 74,000 piculs from
China last year. The total sales this week have only
been 41,55: bales, comprising 9,780 bales for export,
3,360 bales for speculation, and 28,360 by the trade.
The demand throughout the week wae very ilimted,
god under tho inffuenoe uf the continued large im
port, and spprehensio.i of political difficulties on the
Continent, on Monday and Tuesday holders submit
ted to a decided decline. Yesterday, upon advices of
l-sthe.' reduced receipts iu the American ports, prices
rallied slightly, but still show a reduction varying
from x to Id from last Wednesday's quotations. In
Sea Inland the business has again been moderate, and
the choice being large of the middle grades, prices
continue somewhat irregular. American has been to
comparatively fair request, but quotations are reduced
X to Md V Fnoea throughout the week have
beeu very irregular, and quotations show a decline

qutilities. A few small sales are reported to Chins
and Japan at about Id V lb. reduction.

of the city of Savannah is hereby published for the
Instruction aud information of the citizens thereof.
Ordinance 30th Oelober, 1866.

Szo. 7. No wooden home, building, sbed, fence or
structure of wood which encroaches upon any pub
lic street, lane, alley, or place witlito the limits of
the city of Savauuah and bamleta thereof, shall be
considered as embraced within the provisions of the
fourth section of this Ordinance so long as such en
croachments continues; that no wooden house,
building, sbed, or structure of wood, shall be repaired
within the lire limits or said city orSavannah aud the
hamlets tbereoL unless permission therefor shall
have been psMionsly obtained lrom the City Conn
ell, on certificate In writing from the Chief Fireman
that such repairs will not amount to rebuilding of
such house, building, shed, or structure; and that
whenever anil wherever the repairs upon any
woomcii honse, Imildlng, shed or strnctnre shall
excc-u.l :i moiety thereof, the same shall he

ing under this Ordinance, and the Chief Fire
man Is hereby prohibited from granting the cer
tificate mentioned in this section; and If any person
shall violate any of the provisions of this section, he
or she on conviction before the Billies Court, shall be

each and every day snch house, building, shed or
structure shall remain repaired, altered, changed, or
Improved iu any way or manner whatever, contrary
to the provisions of this section. And every me
chanic, artificer, or other person, who shall be in
strumental to the rebuilding, repairing, altering,
changing or improving, In any way or manner what
ever, any wooden house, building, shed or structure
contrary to the provisions of this section, shall, on
conviction before the Police Court, be fined In the
sum of one hundred dollars; one half 01 the fines
Imposed by this section to be payable to the Informer,
and the other half Into the City Treasury; tt being
understood that open sheds, mentioned In the second
section, are not embraced to this section.
SEC 8. Whenever any bouse, building, shed or
structure hereafter to be built within the fire limits
ot the city of Savannah, shall be rooted or covered,
l; shall be roofed or covered with slate, tile, tin, or
other incombnitilble material, and that every person
violating the foregoing provision, shall be fined In
the sum of one hundred dollars: o e half thereof to
be payable to tbe Informer, and the other half Into
the Citv Treasury.
Sue. 9. Any wooden building la the condition au
thorized by this Ordinance, may be removed from
one part or a lot to any other pact of tbe some lot,
even though within the fire limits, provided the per
mission of Council be first had and obtained.
Sec. 10. it shall anil may be lawful for the Mayor
and chief Fireman of the city of savannah and ham
lets thereof .to cause any house; building, shed or
structure, to ba pulled down or removed whenever
they shall consider the same a nuisance or danger
ous, or in violation of the Fire Ordinances of sold
city; the expense of such pulling down or removal to
be paid out of the City Treasury, except In coses or
