SAVANNAH MARKET.
Remarks.
FBiDAT,|May 11.1866.
The general indisposition to sell cotton has bo cur
tailed the supply of bills tbat Exchange on all points
has appreciated in value, Prime Sterling selling as
high as 35 (an advance of 3 to 5 per cent, for the week)
and checks on New York can now be sold readily out
of doors at par to % discount. Tbe banka do not now
gonerally check at less than y premium. We look for
further advance in the value of good exoliange as long
as the present policy of cotton holders prevails.
Cotton.— During the first part of the week there
was no market whatever, but some few sales have in
the last day or two been made on an average of 30SJ)
31c for Middling, the market exhibiting a hardening
tendeficy. Giving 31c for Middling at a quotation, we
defer giviDg prices for other grades, as the lower are
unsaleable and the better scarcely to be found.
The crop aecounts are still becoming more and
more unfavorable, which we regret to have to report
In Sea Islands thero exists the same depression, and
we have heard of no transactions.
