DDRYEAS’ IAIZEHA
Toast the men as you will
For their courage and aktU,
Their prowess, their pluck and their daring ;
And while high you fill.
Drink it not. boys, until
. With the girls of the South you are sharing.
For like Sparta of old,
With her warriors bold.
Her matrons and maids so Inspiring,
They gave more than gold-
suffered hardships untold—
Lift aud blood for their oountry'e requiring.
When adversity came
They were ever the same.
And kept timid hearts from despairing ;
Appealed to past fame.
To their country and name,
And nourished fresh hopes by their bearing.
Toast the men if you will
For their courage and skill.
Their prowess, their pluok and their daring ;
But while high you fill.
Drink it not, boy*, until
With the girls of the South you are sharing.

Contbadictzd.—J. Rosso Browne, well known to the
literary world, has tuet arrived from Arizona, having
thoroughly explored that Territory. He says, it hs
highly improbable, scarcely possible, that Colonel
Bennett, who was In command of Fort Goodwin, per-
mitted hlmaelf to be aurpriaed by a large body of In
dians and the garrison butchered. So for from there
being two thousand savages engaged In the reported
wholesale massacre, ha eaya there are not more than
seven or eight hundred fighting Apaches In the entire
Territory, whiah In no part Is capable of •nbststlag so
large a number, and especially after tho severe win
ter. At all events the report is greatly exaggerated.—
