beans for him. The party went to work very earnestly,
and had palled beans enough, to.make * ioifcable fair
day* work; but when they bad? Antabed li the after
noon, instead of conveying tne beana to Mr. Bradley,
they started with them in a different direction. In

Were observed by the proprietor of the place, who
hailed them and fired his gun off, which brought them
to a halt. On his approaching them and questaoniug
them about the beans, they Btated that they had been
to work for Mr. Bradley all day, and that he had paid
them off in beana. Bradley, on hearing of the affair,
came to the city and procured the services of officer
Buckner, who arrested the whole party. The case
brought bofore Justice Staley yesterday afternoon
for examination, when four of the party were fonnd
guilty and turned over to the Superior Court to an~
swer to the charge of larceny. Nothing having been
proven against one of them he was released.
At a meeting of the Yonng Men’s Stonewall De
bating Society, held last evening, the following officers
were elected:
President—Dr. Ezra T. Rogers.
Vice President—R. Wayne Russell.
Treasurer—R. C. Connell.
Secretary—G. E. Bevans.
Librarian—G. E. Trumpler.
Persons desirous of purchasing a handsome coun

Financial and Commercial.
lAVAmAH MARKET.
Trubsday, Jane 8,1*6.
Cotton.—Daring the past week the market lias ex-
kibited a declining tendency, there being little or dq
demand for cotton of any description.
This state of the market has been due partially to
the depressing financial accounts received from Liver
pool; partially to the extreme stringency of the money
market in this place, and, to some extent, to the in
creased estimates of the growing crop.
The general opinion which seems to prevail in the
best informed circles is, that the next crop will at least
amonnt to 2,000,000 of bales, and probably go beyond
that figure.■
