SAVANNAH, SATURDAY. JULY T, 1866.
Murmur*.
Why wilt thou make “ u ’ a °
Give forth * sound 'T P™'
Wliv wilt thou tfe*v» fair flower*
Into a weary chain ?
Why turn each cool, gray shadow
Iato a world of fears?
Whv eav the winds are wailing .
Why call the dewdrops tears?
The voices of happy nature.
And the heaven’s sunny gleam.
Reprove thy sick heart’s lancies.
Upbraid thy foolish dream.
Listen* and I will tell thee
The son«'Creation sings,
From the humming of Bees In the heather,
To the flutter of angela’ wings.
An echo rings forever.
The sound can never cease ;
It speaks of God of glory,
It speaks to earth of peace.
Not alone did angels sing it
To the poor shepherd’s ear,
But the shepherd heavens chant it,
While listening ages hear.
Above thy peevish wailing
Rises that holy song;
Above earth's foolish clamor.
Above the voice of wrong.

Dear Sib The following spirited and very origi

oi rebel partisan horse in the Shenandoah valley^ in
ihe summer of '64 ~
Ntw York, Juuel7, 1860.
Guerrilla.
X.
Who hither rides so hard ? A scout,
Juf.t after midnight he stole out.
News, comrades—there’s his single shout :
Count!
“One—two—three I ” Three miles in front
Yankees in camp. Call up the hunt.
Nuvv for the chase, the charge, the brunt :

She's killed, the staggering, foam-splashed brown !
Her rider, gashed from brow to crown,
Gaspa “forward!—clutches—reels—goes down”
Shot!
“Guerrilla”—look ! his fiickeriuj
Flash “forward !” even where he lies,
And the scout charges as he dies:
Trot!

Well, here’s the hill, and there's the camp.
And (there the drowsy pickets tramp.
Our brave steeds snuff the air and stamp;
Pshaw!
'Tis but a cheer, a plunge, a yell—
Upon them horse aud men, pell-mell-
And then the same old tale to tell:
