Mayor and Common Council of the City of Savannah,
Ga. Nelsox Bronson,
1st Lt. A* A. S. A. Commissioner.
Whereupon Alderman Lachlison offered the follow
ing resolution which was unanimously adopted:
The City Council of Savannah having, at its regular
meeting on the 27th day of .Tune last, passed a resolu
tion requiring the Public Park in said city, known as
Forsyth Place, to be closed against colorod persons,
except persons of color having charge of white chil
dren, and said resolution not having been enforced;
and Council having, at its late regular meating on the
11th inst. again ordered the enforcement of said reso
lution; and the Mayor and Aldermen having, on this
72th day of July, I860, received a notification from the
military authorities of the United States to the effect
that said resolution cannot be enforced except as
against all persons, white as well as colored; audit
being the sense of said Mayor and Aldermen, at this
special meeting assembled,that if said resolution is not
enforced or said Park closed, the said Park will con
tinue aa it now is, a resort for disorderly negroes to
the great annoyance of the white inhabitants of said
city, lt is therefore
Resolved, That for the present, and until the whole
matter can be laid before the Government at Wash
ington and its decision be had, the said Park be closed
against all persons whatsoever, this resolution not to
be construed as prohibiting the keeper of said Pirk
from entering therein for the purpose of keeping the
grounds and shrubbery in order.
