Thar® have been very few cases brought before His
Honor within the past week, the number not averaging
over three or four a day. yesterday there were bat
two cases on the docket fbr trial
Miles Maguire, a white boy, and Robert Robinson,
a colored boy, were charged with disorderly conduct
in the streets. The boys stated that they were trying
their whips on one another, merely in a joke, when
the)' were arrested by the police. As the joke was
carried to such an extent as to create a disorder in the
streets, they were ordered to be coufined at the Police
Barracks until dark last evening.
Charles Holmes (colored) was charged with stealing
a watermelon at the Market from a country cart.—
Holmes, thinking that an honest confession waa good
for the soul, when the proof was so positive against
him, acknowledged the theft, and was sentenced to
the police barracks for twenty days.
Body Found.—As the sloop Fannie and Mary was
coming up the river yesterdaj' morning, a dead body
waa noticed by the Captain floating in the South
Channel, nearly opposite to the mouth of Augustine
Creek. The body waa secured and towed to the dtp,
and landed on the Ferry Wharf. The body is sup.
posed to be that of a soldier, as he had on military
pants, who attempted to escape from Tybee Island
and had died in the marsh.
An inquest waa held upon the body by Justice
Smith, and the jury rendered a Verdict that the de
ceased came to his death from accidental drowning.
Among the Rose Buds and Orange Flowbxs.—
We record elsewhere the marriage of Mr. E. E.
Kulman and Miss Matilda Z. Hauseman, daughter of
Capt. Wm. H. Hausmau, of this city. We are in.
debted to the bridegroom for samples of the wedding
viands, which we partake of with the hope that their
matrimonial life may be. long and happy, that afflic
tion may never approach them in any shape, and
perfect happiness may always attend them.

I must admit that I became overwhelmed with sur

my endeavor to render assistance in the escape of sol
diers now confined on Tybee Island. I am most as
suredly happy to inform my unknown friend, and the
public generally, that I have not as yet become so re
duced as to resort to such means to obtain a liveli
hood. I am still m perfect health, and earnestly in
voke Divine Providence to allow me to remain so.

The Cholera on Tybee.

On Board the San Salvador, »
Off Tybee, Tuesday, July 24, 1836. f
Mr. Ruwe—Dear Friend : By your kindness the
dull monotony of quarantine was greatly relieved by
the arrival of the little box containing just what I
wanted. Indeed, sir, I shall long remember your
kindness. I was, as you truly said, in & "forlorn con
dition," but I am now cheerful and happy. I take
the bitters very regular, and do honestly believe it is
the best article of the kind in t&e market Since I
commenced taking it I feel a great deal bettor. Al
though I was not sick before I took it, yet I felt rather
dull, and my appetite waa not‘good; but since I com
menced using it I feel as gay and lively as ever I felt;
my appetite is also improved. Now I don’t dread
oholera. I have given some to my fellow passengers;
they all think favorably of it, but I have proved it by
experience to be good. The manufacturer of such an
article is, I am sure, a benefactor of the human race.
With the utmost confidence in the Oriental Cholera

To Hon. Geo. W. Wylly, Acting Mayor—Dear Sir:
We arrived in this city yesterday from Washington, first
having received a letter from the Secretary of the

is discharged from the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad
trains into the Ogeechee Canal, and by that medium
conveyed to the shipping. There are now fourteen
saw mills in the line, (besides a number of timber
cutters,) which should send to Savannah during the
next twelve months say seventeen million feet of
lumber and timber. The removal of the Liberty
street connection would at once paralyze this business
and deprive the City of Savannah of a half million of
value in commerce.
"As a through connection betweon the tw o rail
roads, the Liberty street connection is of great im
portance for the transportation of freight from (me:
railroad to the other* and would be valuable for tfito
purpose alone if all other considerations were set
aside. Why add to the already accumulated barriers
to intercourse through this city by -destroying the
only medium of communication between the only two
railroad lines it possesses, and at a time when it is
impracticable to establish any other connection.
"The ‘Lamar Extension' has i teen stopped by writ
of injunction* and the Fort Jackson Railroad, which
terminated at the best point of navigation oh the
Savannah Biver, has been destroyed. It would seem
inexpedient, it not absolutely suicidal, for tile city
authorities to permit the displacement uf the only
outlet to the principal trafficof two hundred miles of
railway, in which the City of Savannah is itself a share
holder to the amount of $1,*283,000. “ ~
"In the three years of the use of this conueotion no
injury has occurred to life or Umb where auy blame
could attach to the employees of either this or of tbe
Central Railroad Compauy. In but one or two in
stances has any negligence been reported, and i these
have been promptly furnished either by yourself, of
ficially, or by the authorities of the twu Companies.

the passage of the trains is not objectionable ’’ '
"I beg leave to add 4 to the foregoing that this com
pany anticipates receiving a large amount of railroad-
iron within the next few months by way of the Cen
tral Railroad, and that the immediate removal of the
Liberty street connection would present a serious ob
struction to the transportation of this material from
one railroad to the other. I do not wish tone misun
derstood on this subject. The Liberty street con
nection waa not originally constructed or designed by
either railroad compauy, although the material in it is
tbe property of the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad Com
pany. It waa constructed by order of Gen. Pember
ton for military purposes. If, therefore, any injury
has grown out of the establishment of the connection,
let the responsibility rest where it properly belongs.
But this work has become an important public high
way m which great intareteaare Involved. As suen it is
property Of the community, and shduU.^iffl be hastily
sacrificed. It has probably done all the damage that
is possible to individuals, and while this is properly
a subject of regret, I trust that these individuals will,
themselves, unite in a reasonable delay until such
time as another connection can be estal ’*
advantageous to the Interests iuvolv'ed.
