REVIEW (tt T»1E SAVANNA^ MAP2ET.
A review of ihe m^i ket ftr ihe past several weeks will
enyise. A fearfol European
peace re-eplablished. Late
to nave imparted more s 4 s-
and 'be wild speculative
time pervaded the whole
country, appear to be g.'eatly diminishing. -
It will be some weeks, however, before much will be
done in this market ia he way of tr^de. The season
is, in every respect, a backward one, and country
buyers are evincing a like disposition, and will proba
bly postpone their fall purchases tofce latest date.
The weather, too,-for the past week has been ve»-y
unfavorable for business.
It should be observed, however, that large shipments
of goods for the interior are daily arriving from North
ern ports, giving rise to quite astir aud bustle amoug
all engaged in this liue of business.
Ales.—The trade is reviving with the approach of
fall, and large orders are on the way. Prices are un
changed.
Apflbs.—Early Northern pippins are selling at $G(sh
bbl. Very little on the market.
Bacon.—The market is yeU supplied, whh a £ai#“
demand. We quote ribbed sides at 22@22>£o.; clerr
do., 22>a@223£c.; clear sides, 23.fccG shouide~p, 19©
19>£c.; hams, choice sugar cured, 25@23c.
Butter.—We quote Goshen at 40@45c.; good West
ern, 88c. The stock of prime butter is very limited.
In fact, even in New York it is hard to obtain. The
supplies which reach us. are almost exclusively second
qeality, though often sold for prime. € * *“ •
Beet.—The stock is light and the demand limited.
We quote mess $14 bbl.; extra mess, $16; and Ful
ton market, $16 ^ half bbl.
Bagging and Rope.—I he offering stock of bagging
is not large, and -he demand for coun^i^qat pre*
sseot limited, many f tehent,
deterred from purcliasing : aPtbei4 flgnree. Some busi
ness, however, has been done nRlJfora.
A great dpal of bagging arriving here at present ia
simply here in transitu.
We refe* to the wholesale list for prices.
The supply of rope is more than ample, anu selling:
Greenleaf 22 to 23c.; hemp 18 to 21c.; and gate ^5^0
17c.. V
Corns.—The stock dont-nue* limited, ihough «nA-
oient for the demand, the business being ent rely of
a jobbing nature. '
We quote St. Domingo and Rio 27 to 3Je.; Java,
common to good, 40 to 55c.
Coen.—There is very little white on the market,
while yellow or mixed ia in good supply. A cargo ot
white, daily expected, ia kdd at $1 Ai. It U retailing
$1 50. Yellow ia Felling, in qmmt'ties, at $1 25, and
retailing at $1 27**<@H 30.
Diiv Goods.—Very little is doing, je^in thisjiue of
buainos8, as in most othors. The leading merclixnts
do not look for any activity until about the. first (ff Oc
tober. m , _
The market in New York evidences an upward ten
dency, though no decided change has ytft occurred in
prices. Quotations will be found in our wholesale,
list. * ‘ f
Flour.—The stock on band is f«ir, with free arrivals,
and a good demand, particularly “for Georgia flour.”
We quote superfine $7 60 to $8 50; extra
Western fancy brands $14 to 18; and new Goorfela, in
sacks, $7 50 to 9.
SOOAB AMD MoLAHgxa.—Io.tha f e,ar 4 fofcf, fiost
others in the grocery UAe 4 fc* market i» weH sUppbod,
with bat little demand however.
We quote new Cuba molasses, in hhds., at 52 to 55c.;
Florida and Georgia syrnp at 70 to 75c.
Muscovado and Porto Rioo ^igsr^atlS to I5e.; white

WRIGHT’S,,,
Patent Improved
IRON SCREW i
Packing Cotton.
T he attention op cotton planters is
itivite<l to the claims of this invention, which, in
SIMPLICITY, ECONOMY, DURABILITY and POW
ER, surpaf&e.s any machine for Baling Cotton ever
before presented to the country. Its great excel
lence in these respects makes it
THE BEST MACHINE
FOR PACKING COTTON
IN THE WORLD !
1. ITS SIMPLICITY.—It Isa new and improved
application of the Screw Power; jast as simple In its
construction as the old fashioued woo ten screw, us
easily managed and no more liable to get onr of or
der. .Ko ropes or pullies as used ia the cotton
presses.
2. ITS ECONOMY.—It has been demonstrated by
actual experiment to be cheaper than tho wooden
screw. The timbers used in Us consrrurtion ue
much smaller and fewer than those employed, lu tfe
old screwyUie levers Being only 16 feet long, and the
lieiglitof the whole frame above the bed being only
10 feet. All these timbers can be procured ou the
plantation, no matter how exhausted the forest. Any
ordinary wood workman can build the frame, and
half a dozen hands will put it up in a few hours.
3. ITS l)UHAIlfi.ITY.—The Screw and Nut are or
Iron, and will last for years without soy appreciable
wear. • Tne whole machine oocspirt g» little space
that it ran he completely covered at very small cost.
4. ITS POWER.—With a lhvcr only ffxteen feet
long, one mule ia sufficient for. paektog the heaviest
bale*. Planters who nave used it say that, with two
mules, cotton may be compressed on this machine
lot shipment.
This Screw was invented just before the opening of
S .r. and has subsequently never been very gen-
introduced. Those who have used It aodseen
, unanimously concur In the opinion that It is
UNRIVALLED AS A COTTON SCREW.
The followlng testimonials fronl pome of-the best
and m bit reputable planters in the country show the
estimate lil which this Screwstands with those who
have tried it: -. f:
We have nseil and seen iu operation for the last
five years, Wright's Improved Cotton Iron Screw,
and feel no h'-anatl n in pronouncing It the very best
Cotton Screw we have ever known, ffo teljhly do
we esteem it, that, tr practicable to obtain on* of
them, we would have no other. It is easily ba it,
simple in its onusunction, not liable to getortof
order, packs well, with grtht power and with great
facility.
