As nearly as we can learn a great proportion of
those who have gone North this season, frightened by
the alarm produced by cholera brought from New
York, and rumors of yellow fever which never came,
hue •■jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.’
Many who weut North for health have brought on ill
ness, from which they have only recovered by return-
tug. Wc kuow Savanuah to be healthier than any
lciding Northern city, as statistics show. We are not
sure that we exaggerate in claiming it, in proportion
to the number of inhabitants and the peculiar circum
stances which characterize its present population,
the healthiest city of the United- States. We.heard a
distinguished medical gentleman, not especially par
tial to Savanuah, a native and resident of ..another
State, remark, a short time since, that be considered
Savannah the healthiest city within two hundred
mil s, and one of tilt; healthiest in the Union.'

Vernon Sued Road Company have placed tho road in
good repair, from Savannah to the Bluff, having
spared no trouble iu improving its condition. /
Mr. Bellissario, the popular proprietor of the
Veranda llouse, has every facility for entertaining
regular or transient guos:s, witn a flue location, cool
rooms, a constantly wcll-rilled larder, good cooks,
stables, boats, bathing, Jrc. We never hear of any
one leaving him dissatisfied.
Mr. Converse, of the Vernon House, ulMo h^s

Mr. Constantine on the other side of the bltlff Is
well known and popular as a landlord, and is largely
patronized.

At all of the houses can be found game, fish and
other luxuries of the season, served in fine style,

fragrance of dower gardens for accompaniments.
At Thunderbolt, tho road to which is now nearly

Thunderbolt has the advantage of being short,
