Apprehended Difficult^' at Fernandina,—We
learn from a reliable source that a serious difficulty
was apprehendA at Fernandina, on Wednesday, last,
in consequence of a threatened attempt by the Sheriff
to eject several persons from houses which they had
purchased from the Government, about three yeara
ago—tlie right of redemption having expired. The
owners contended that their property was exclusively
their own, not recognizing the authority of the Sheriff
in the matter, and threatened resistance by force of
arms, to any effort on tbo part of the Sheriff to eject
them. The military were ordered to hold themselves
in readiness to prevent any breach of the peace. We
shall probably learn further in a few days.
From a Cruise.—The U. S. Revenue steamer Hau-

total loss. The brig Anna D. Jordan, /from Boston,
bound to St. Mary’s, arrived at Fernandina ou Tues
day evening last, having weathered the recent gales
in safety.

sirous of obtaiuing good bargains and No 1 articles
should give him a call, as persons doing business
with him can be sure of being charged the lowest
prices, and receive articles of the best quality.

United States Revenue steamer Nansemond, has re

Aa the GREATEST OP TEMPORAL BLESSINGS, the
demand for this potent and agreeable Vegeta
ble TONIC and ALTERATIVE has
’ been immensely Increased.
Not only in this country, but in all other lands to
wffich commerce bears our Sag. the peculiar merits
of the article are known and appreciated. It hia
beenlfound suited to all climates, all localities, and
the needa of every ciaaa of society. Compounded o
the pnreat vegetable ingredients, unalloyed with any
miners] salt or corrosive vegetable alkaloid, and com
bining the properties of a WHOLESOME STO
MACHIC, a GENTLE LAXATIVE, and an efficient
AKTI-BItlOUS AGENT, it is endorsed by practice
Chemists as the safest, and by unprejudiced, physi
cians aa the surest Preventative, Regulating and,
Restorative Preparation of the age.
The natnre of its components la the guarantee of
ta liarmlessness. It consists of the stimulating prin
ciple of sound Rye, meoicuted with the finest tonic,
anti-febrile, aperient, anti-scorbutic, and anti-spaaf
modic herbs, roots and barka that botanical research
has yet developed for the use or man. Every vegeta
ble substance that enters into its composition is
coiled and selected with scrupulous care, and no
thing that is not sound and perfect of its kind is nsed
in its manufact ure.
In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a sys
tem of inspectioa far more thorough than that
adopted by Government authority, ns a test of .toe
quality of the great staples of life, Is rigorously prac
tised. Every barrel of the cereal stimulant which
forma the basis of tbe Bitters is ascertained to be ab
solutely pare before it Is received Into the mnnnfac
turing department, and every leaf and fibre of tlie
medicating ingredients scrutinized before the proses
of infusion commences. Such is tbe enormous ca
pacity or the tanka in which the Bitters are prepared
that the proprietors are enabled to keep a Huge stock
os hand, and to snppiy the domestic and foreign
market with au article matured and mellowed by
time. Heuce the fiery and biting Havoc which at-
taches to ordinary bitters, and which 1. due to their
newness and the inferior quality of the drags and
alcohol of which they are concocted, is never per

cording to tlie testimony of able chemists, tbe es

STOMACH BITTERS
Are the only Medicinal Totiie tat the World of which,
that fluid is the stimulating ingredient.
To Dyspeptic Sufferers.
Under the general bead of Dyspepsia may be classed
all the varieties of Indigestion. Its symptoms are
eo various, and differ so mnch In different individuals
that it is almost impossible to classify them. In fact,
some of them are utterly indescribable. It may be
safely asserted, however, tost half th* distaaw of
mankind spring from a disordered coadltion of the
stomach; aud that the other half, whatever tlieir
origin, react upon that sensitive and important or
gan. Among the ordinary Indications or Dyspepsia
are flatulence, a bloated and fall feeling about the
stomach and abdomen Immediately after eating, a
gnawing sensation or a senre of hollowness at the
pit of tbe stomach between meals, a heavy doll feel
ing in the bead; feeble or unsteady appetite, occa
sional nausea, restlessness daring night and a weary,
nnrefreslied feeling on rising in the morning, palpita
lion of tbe heart, depression or mim^ sometimes
amounting to monomania, loss of memory,' confu
sion of thought, sour stomach, with raising of food,
aud a choking sensation - in the throat, dimness of
eye, pain in the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli-
natlon for exertion, and sometimes emaciation and s
corpse-like pallor. These are a few of the direct
signs of Dyspepsia, but as it is generally complicated
with specific affections or the bowels, the liver’and
the reives, its victims have many additional torments
which are technically attributed to other caases.
The best advice that can be given to any one who
has the slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, is to for
tify hia or her digestive organs by the dally use or
Hostetter’s Bitters.
The disease proceeds from s lack or vigor in the
Stomach, and this vitalizing preparation will tone
and renovate that organ. If the gaMrld'appamtna la
in good working order, and can perfectly dissolve
and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted to its
operation, there will be no Dyspepsia. If it cannot
do this, it requires reinforcement, and the best of all

The stomach is the commissariat of the system. It
upplies t he elements of life to the whole body. In
It is prepared the material of blood, masda, bone
amPfinre, and if it fails to purvey that material in
quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body sur-
fere, and with It the mental faculties. Therefore pro
tect the commissariat department. Don’t let the en
emy obtain possession cf it. It is easier to prevent
disease from getting into an organ thaa to expel It
after it becomes a chronic fixture. Consider the
drat indication of uneaniaess In the stomach as a
sign that Dyspepsia is preparing to attack, and baffie
It at once with the GREAT RBPBLLANT.
Bot ir ills too late to prevent, remember that it ts
not too late to cure. Jt is balieved that there Is lie
case of Chronic Indigestion that can withstand tie
remedial operation of
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.
This belief is grounded on twefve jests’ experien te
of the efficacy of the preparation. The first Instance
of its failure to give relief is yet unchronicled. Jfit
ever had failejl, the voluminous correspondence ad
dressed to the proprietors from all parts of tbe Unite* 1
States reig aouth ArqyMca, would at least include
one tetterEx#reasin»-Alsaatis&et U>n. But no, tone
ts not one. The testimony, extending oyer a period,
or moriS than a dozen years, is all of the approving
tenor. Certainly this is a sufficient warrant for
claiming tintf the HITTERS are a 8PHQIFIC FOR

AS A
Household Medicine.
It is a great fallacy to suppose that the nanaeons-
ness or a medicine 1? any proof of IU value aa a res
torative. The truth Is, that If the palate revolt*
against a remedy, It cannot do mnch good.
H&te'rtiR'S BITTED!
Are not anplearant to tbe taste, and always soothe
and quiet, instead of irritating the stomach. Indeed
they ere ti* bsst known preventative of sad care tor
nausea. Their usefulness as a fondly specific can
scarcely be overrated. For sickness at the stomach,
sadden spasms, wind dplto, by Merita, nervpna head
ache, lassitnde, goer spirits, and th* thousand and
(toe little ailments that are continually occurring In
evhry family, there is nothing comparable to them. A
whole medicine cheat tall of tinctures, essences, pow
ders, and pllla, to not worth a single bottle of the
BITTERS in such case*.

SAVANNAH, October lRUfo
THE J. B CAM A CO.’S
‘'NONPAREIL FRENCH G0AN0
HIGH Is new offered to Planters possesses qnali-
w ties which are peculiar to it atone, and render it
for superior to any other known, aa baa been folly
proven by the “French Aaademy of. Sciences," and
also by practical persona of enUrgad' experience in
every department of Agricoltare.
Among the meritorions qoallties which peonliarly
distinguish the " Nonpareil French Guano,” may ha
enumerated the following:
1st. It ariH proinote the growth of Cotton, Corn, To
bacco, or any kind of grain or vegetable, equal to A
No. 1 Peruvian or Mexican Guano, as has been fully
tested, at the same time being entirely free from the
objectionable properties of the above, as it is a Perma
nent Improver-of tbe Soil, instead of a stimulant.
2d. It can be applied to the leaves as well aa the
toots of plants, without any danger of burning them,
If used properly, and wc guarantee that wherever ap
plied tbe soil will retain its moisture, and will not
bake, even the most clayey.
3d. It will prevent Worms or Insects from destroy
ing either plant er grain, and wherever it is applied
every kind of worm or insects will instantly disap
pear, its properties being repugnant to insect life of
every kind. This quality stone will be a greaSfhenefit
to agriculture when it is estimated what vast number*,
aa Southern planters know, have lost their crop by in
sect depredations.
In e circular it is impossible to folly enter into the
merits of tbe “Nonpareil French Goano,” but we as
sure the public that we have not exaggerated, and It
only remains for those interested, to test its value,
when we feel confident that it will rapidly supercede
all others.
