A Bold Theft.—On Wednesday last s negro boy
entered the premises of a citizen in this city and
stated to persona whom he sfiw that he deaMl dm*
ployment and would wait until the proprietor came to
dinner.- After seeing the proprietor the boy departed,
and waited until he had finished his dinner and left
the house, when he returned and told the servants
that he had been employed by Hr. -—, and had bsaa
sent by him after his harness. The negro was al
lowed to take the harness; which was almost new. and
valued at about seventy-five dollars, since which time
he lias not been seen or heard of.

Whereas,it ia of the utmost importance to the commer
cial interests of Savannah that the temporary imped
intents to the navigation of the river between the city
audits mouth should be speedily removed and the
channel over what is known as the “Wrecks” deep
ened so as to ailmif vessels of greater draught There
fore, be it
Resolved, That a Committee of five to be composed
of the Mayor, two Aldermen and two citizens, be ap
pointed by Bis Honor the Mayor to investigate the
subject of river improvement, to enquire wbat has
been done in reference to the matter by the previous
Board, and to obtain all necessary information iu re
gard to the most expeditions, economical and ef
fectual means of accomplishing the object proposed,
and report the result of their investigations at the next
meeting of tho Board, with such recommendations
ae they may deem proper to make for the immediate
action of Council.

Whereas, the bill prepared and submitted to this
Board by the cogomittee appointed in pursuance of -
resolution of this Board passed the — of Septemb
last, seeks to create a Board of Health invested with
extraordinary power over tile persona and property of
onr citizeua, and to a great extent independent of onr
municipal authorities, we deem it our solemn duty,
before «*Hn g further upon a measure involving so
seriously the interests of onr people, to submit the said
bill to those constituted by chains Of onr citizens the
guardians of the interests of oaf city. Therefore,
