The Election*.
Radicals were generally victorious in the
elections which transpired on the 6llt instant-
This is unpleasant news to the Southern
people, who bnd indulged the hope that, in
New York at least, the Democracy would
be triumphant. But they are doubtless con
soled in a measure by the Conservative vic
tories in the glorious little Slates of Mary
land and Delaware; which precludes even a
possibility of the adoption of the Constitu
tional Amendment, despite the opposition of
the Southern States, as contemplated by the
Radicals. The intelligent observei^of current
events could hardly have anticipated a more
favorable result' in behalf of the true interests
of the country, owing to the number of fabri
cated dispatches fretn the South to the
Northern journals, replete with falsehoods
designed to operate upon the Northern peo
pie during the late canvass. Many of the
Radical papers were filled daily to over
flowing with . ibese dispatches, which,
doubtless, had a powerlul effect upon
the masses of voters, who were pre
disposed lo plaice implicit confidence in
every statement, however false, unfavorable
in this section. Every little difficulty which
if occurring up North, would scarcely be no
ticed, has been magnified into a new war of
rebellion, because of its occurring in the
South. Mendacious partisans, interested in
the perpetuation of sectional domination,
had not scrupled for weeks prior to the elec
tion to chaige the Southern people with the
secret purpose of renewing the war in the
event oi the success of the Democracy, and
what the common sense of almost every man,
baviug really at heart the good of society,
ought to leach him instinctively to reject be
cause of Us gross unreasonableness, was of
ten put forth with the most unblushing au
dacity as a veritable occurrence here. It is
really deplorable that we cannot successfully
caution the Northern public against so many
infamies ol this character. Common hon
esty and the instinct of decency revolt at
the demoralization which they indicate. But
they have done their work in the perpetua
tion of Radical supremacy and we must
await the result, with indifference we can
not, but with calmness and manly fortitude.
United States Circuit Court.
fbe November term of the Circuit Court
of the United Stales commenced its session
in this city on the 6th instant, Judge Erskine
presiding-
Judge Wayne, althongh expected, was not
present, os undei the Act of Congress of
July 23 J, 18G6, no assignment of the Supreme
Court Judges has, as yet, been made to the
circuits.
We understand there is a large amount of
business before the Court, involving questions
of importance. It is probable. Mr. Justice
Erskine wili preside alone daring the term,
or the greater part of it at le.ast.
All the officers of the Court were present:
Col. Henry S. Fitch, United States Attorney;
Major William G. Dickson, United States
MsrsUai; and H. C. Holcombe, Esq., Clerk.

executed upon the negro Bill, the murderer
of Mrs. Rollins, at Irwinton, on Friday last,

life devoted to robbery and murder. ;The

A Florida Colony from Connecticut.—
The Hartford Courant says that' Messrs. Ta-
tro and Sanches, of that city, and others of
the Florida colony, sailed^-from New York
.iu Saturday tor their hew home. Another
party of the same colony, aud bound lor the
jarue destination, sailed front Baltimore on
Thursday. Others will follow as soon us
they can gel ready. Quite a number of fam

can be provided, and we learn that that will
be very soon, as there is au eighty horse

which will snppiy lumber for building. The
prospect' appears to be favorable for a large
colony of a good class of northern men and
their families to make a permanent settlement Bu

RESOLUTIONS.
The following resolutions, in addition to
those which we have already published, were
adopted:
Resolved, That this meeting sees nothing inthepre
sent condition or future prospects of this Company to
induce despair of the ultimate success of our enter
prise.
2. That with a fund of subscribed stock, yet nn-
touched, In the hands of solvent shareholders, amount
ing to upwards of three million dollars, of which less
than one-tenth will discharge all our liabilities, and leas
than one-fifth will enable the Company to proceed pros
perously with its operations, insolvency Is absurd, aud
allure to succeed wholy unnecessary.
3. That to pay the debts and resuscitate the credit of
the Company is the first duty and purpose of the ttock-
bolders, to whicb end every shareholder is already
pledged end bound by law to the full extent of the
stock owned or subscribed by him.
4. That this meeting being satisfied that thirty per
cent, of the stock at present subscribed will suffice to
pay the debts and prosecute the business of the Com
pany successfully, would now, if it possessed tbe legal
power, reduce and consolidate tbe stock by reducing
tbe number of shares to three-tenths ot tbe original
amount; but that being impracticable without an
amendment of the charter, the st ickbolders herepre-
sent pledge themselves, and hereby instruct the Presi
dent andDIrectore to endeavor to obtain such amend
ment from tbe General Assembly of VlrginUas soon
as it again be convened in December next.
5 That In addition To the reqnleitiona heretofore
made, amounting in the cen*.,
tbe President and Directors be instructed forthwith to
make a farther requisition of ten per cent, upon the
stockholders—fire per cent payable withiii thirty
days, and five per cent, within ninety days—and^thst
the
all
U 6 ’ That the President and Directors be advised to
Kuapcnd the active operations of the Company, tak-
ingdae care of all its property until the stockholders
shall have responded to the requisitions upon’ them
Is to supply a fund sufficient topey Urn debts and
extend the business without further embarrassment
7 That thTcredltora have, in the obligation,
wiliineneess and ability of tbe stockholders to pay
with^fononible prompUhsds the debts respectively
die, tbe amplest security, there tor. They are re
spectfully appealed to to forbear such proceedings as
can only tend to delay, embarrass and injure the
company, without in any wiae hastening that result
of the sDsedy jig.iu.Hnn which the stockholders de
sire and aim at not less earnestly than themselves.
8. That the stockholders now present address them
selves with confidence to their fellow-stockholders,
urgently but most respectfully reminding them that
they cannot and ought not to aeek to evade responsi
bility for the debts already incanred, and that in
justice to all concerned the commercial enterprise on
which we entered, so needful as It la to the business
of the coontry. and of which we esteem the future
success already assured, cannot h» abandoned with
out emitted discredit. They therefore trust that each
stockholder, for his own sske, and for tbs sake of toe
oompany, will respond promptly and-fully to the calls
made upon them,
9. That the President and Directors be specialty in-
atructed to cause the Interests and rights of the com
et! place in the national legislature." -

I have examined a great variety of GldHN«-N manu

to the Professor must say, that his Olassesarci
superior quslity, adapted to meet Hie warns of air.]
every rye, where the virion is in any way imperim.
The Professor selected for me a pair of hla Auairaliu
Crystal Glasses which are ot a very superior quality
and workmanship, rendering vision very distinct,
and suiting my eyes better than auy 1 have ever tried.

" Savannah, Ga., Oct. 20, lafc
We have examined tbe L ust s of Prof. Bkhnhakot,
and consider them superior to any w« luve veer.
They are admirably adapted not only to improve the
imperfections of impaired sight, but to relieve tbe
weariness of vision which constant study produces.
Many of the Glasses are of new and ingenious contriv
ance. We cordially recommend tho Professor to ali
thoee who require scientific optical assistance.
