M. J. Oeady, evidently a stranger in the city, wae
picked up in Bay lane, after remaining there an hour
or eo. He told His Honor that he had nothing to ny,
having no recollection of the affair, and waa fined two
dollars and costs for his loss of memory.
Another man was charged with drunkenne s in the
atreet. The officer said he had heard the defendant in
the atreet making a noiae, and watch being called
for he hud arrested him. A witness was produced
who said that he had tried 'o get the defendant to go
home, but being tmable to do so and the defendant
cursing him, lie (the witness) called watch and had him
arrested. The defendant, iu answer to His Honor,
Mayor Ford, said that he met a number cf men in a
bar-room and got into a discussion. They being Re
publicans and he a Democrat the conversation bad
waxed warm and he might have said something out of
the way. He was fined two dollars and coats.
Edward Webb, a negro boy, and who is a pretty
regular visitor at the Mayor’s levees, was brought up
on the charge of larceny from the house. The officer
testified to finding the boy running.and hearing some
body call “atop thief,” arrested the boy. Upon
searching him a key was found which fitted the wit
ness's door. The witness, upon being examined,
said the boy had come in and asked the price of a
pair of shoes in the afternoon, and when he went out
loitered around the store some time. Before shut
ting up he missed the key out of the door, when he
thought of this boy stealing, and seeing him pass a
short time afterwards called to him, and not stopping
he had the boy arrested, and upon examining him
found the key of his door. He could not awear par
ticularly to ttie key, but it fitted the door. Not wish
ing to prosecute on accouut of the age of the boy, Hin
Honor discharged the case by sending then urchin to
the TJnited States barracks for five days.

Mr. Stamm issues a notice to his creditors that he
intends to leave the city in a short time, and would

the market very active. Sales, 5U3 bales, at 35X®36c.
Wednesday.—The market unchanged, and u gee d
inquiry. Bales 440 bales, at 35x@36c.
Thursday.—The continued dullness in New York,
and a want of confidence in prices, have at last mate
rially affected our market, and holders conceded X®

The inquiry during the day wae good, hot buyere
dem?nd greater concessions than sellers seem dis
posed to make. Tbe heavy frosts reported would na
turally have stimulated prices, but the absence of any
etport demand at the North haa so materially increase,
the stocks at theports as to render buyers very cau
tious.
BBOEOTS.—The receipts at this port show a slight
felling off from last week, being 7,815 bales, against
8,218 last week and 7,847 for the week previous—thus
making the average for the three weeks very nearly
the same. The exports are 6,626 bsles, against 6,256
for the week previous, sad the stock on hand 14,3:9
bales, an excess over the previous week of 2,289 bales.
The receipts to tbe SUth ult., at all the porta, accord
ing to W. F. Wright, are 112,060 bales, against 900.000
same time last year, and the exports 69,000 bales,
against 137,000 for last year.
Chop.—A killing frost haa probably by this time vis
ited nearlye very portion of tbe Cotton growing country.
This will, of ooune, have a serious effect, but is in a
great measure compensated by the extraordinary gooo
weather for picking, which ie everywhere reported.
Ska Island.—Tbe receipts continue very light, end
the market has not yet fairly opened, though we hear
of some few sales at tf to 60 cents for Cotfmon to
good Boilers and McCarthy's, a few very BMrMcCar-

Darien Timber Market.
REPORTED BT JAMES T. PATERSON.
Dabixn. Nov. 7.1864.
The Altarunha river «tiil continues low, and cousc-
qaemly few arrivals for this market. The demand
ucreascs, and the mills need timber of good average
length, for which the following prices are freely paid:
Banging square timber, fair average $12® 18
Round or scale logs 10@12
The mills are all engaged on onlera, and the ereq*
tlon of firs’.-clas-' gang StW-mill3 on D>>boy and Union
Islansd indicates an iticraascd business at ths port.
