SATURDAY MORNING. NOVEMBER 10, lt#«.
Tilt Heavenly Secret.
Doe. the dark and soundless river
Stretch bo wide—
The homeward rolling tide
Over which have crossed
Our loved and early lost,
That their unsealed eyes may never see
The farther aide
Where still amid this toil and misery
We hide ?
Is the realm of their transition
Close at hand
To this onr living land ?
Nearer than we dreamt
Can they catch tbe gleam
Of our 6miies and hear the words wa speak?
And see our deeds ?
And, looking deep*? than onr eyes may .seek,
Our needs?
Do they mingle in our gladness ?
Uu they grieve *■- *
When ways of go id we leave?
Do they know each thought and hope ?
While we in shadows grope.
Can they hear tha Future’s high behest.
Yet lack the power
To lead us from our il! or to arrest
The hour?
When they find os cowed with sorrow
Do they sigh ?
Or when earth passes by
For thorn, do they forget
Tbe cares that here beset
Their well beloved ? Or do t6ey wait
(O be it thus!)
Aad watc.l beside the golden gate
For us?
We are yearning for their secret;
Though w« oali.
No answers ever fall
Upon onr dullard ears
To quell our nameless fears.
Yet God is over all, whste’er may be,
And trusting so,
Patience, my heart 1 a little while, and we
&hail know.
