Present—Hon. Edward C. Anderson. Major; Akler-
meu Ford, Villalouga, Woso, Wyilj, ituifwuftai, War-
tug and C. C. Millar.

of Savannah, enclosing, also, a petition to the Mayor
and Aldermen asking for their approval of the pro
posed memorial of the wharf-owners of the city, io be
submitted to the Legislature, praying that the rates
of wharihge. Ac., be increased.
The communication from the Chamber of Com
merce was then read, which stated that at a receut
meeting of that l*ody a committee was appointed to
put into comparison the yates of Wharfage, Ac., be-
tweeu those levied in the ports of Charlesfcm and Sa
vannah ; to suggest such additions to the rates, aud lo
make such additions' to the rates ae might be •quit
able for the tatter; and invoking the endorsement and
recommendation of Council to the General Assembly
of Georgia, that said addition to present rates may
be sanctioned by law.
The petition of the wharf-owners Was then read,
praying Council to endorse the proposed memorial,
aud' setting forth fully the causes which, in their opin
ion, render it necessary that the present tales of
wharfage bo increased.
The lvepec ive papers were fnFy discussed by the
Board, whereupou the following resolution was offered
by Alderman Wade:
Resolved, That the rates of wfiarfage, Ac., as sub
mitted, be adopted, aud that the memorial be signed
by the Board and returned. Adopted.
The consideration of the bill now pending in the
Senate of the State of Georgia was now in order, **A
bill to be entitled an act to amend the several acts in
lation to the City Court of Savannah.” The act was
read, whereupon
Alderman Villalonga offered the following resolu
tion, which was adopted:
Resolved, That the Mayor be requested to forward
to tbe General Assembly ol the total* of Georgia a re
monstrance in behalf of the Mayor and Aldermen,
protesting against the passage ol a bill recently intro
duced into the Benate, entitled "An act to amend the
several acts iu relation to the City Court of toavatmah”
so lar as i elates to the increase of the salary of the
Judge of the City Court of Savannah, and to request
the henator and Representatives from Chatham to op
pose ilft adoptiou.

ment shall be in the discretion of said Committee on
