Bishop Elliott was the sou of the late Hon.
Stephen Elliott, a gentleman widely known
for his polished culture ami high scientific
attainments, and was born at .Beaufort, South

that tins is a dey which brings witix it its rvi

Jn tiiis us iu other countries, Christmas has
always been a I'uvofiie holiday. In this city
we rejoice iu its early morning chimes—in
its ehilfficu's joyousness—its egg-nog aud
social merry makings- To the child it brings
the leaiizatiou of bright dreams^ around
which cluster notions of some supermud-
dauc benifiepnee. To the youth it brings
present haziness find 'hope for tbe future.
To the old it brings.remembrance and tile
satisfaction of giving lo tho rich novelty,
and, iu a righteous community, to the poor
ubuudancc.
None ot these things should be lost sight
of. We envy not the feelings of the miserly'
curmudgeon, whose heart expands not upon
Christmas day. He is far happier who
gives liberally of what be has in procuring
tiiose little testimonials of affection which
cheer the heart ot friendship, light the path
way of iovc, and add fresh delight lo tlie in

two great specifics of the Doctor are fust supersed
