The Macon papers of yesterday give an acoouuf of

Hon. E C. AnDRsaoN, presiding.
Savannah, March 3,1868.
The a ; tendance upon this tribunal of municipal
justice waa not large, but sufficiently strong to im
press the Court, its officers, reporters and spectators
with the importance of dispensing speedy justice-
and to this end, although out of the regular order we
shall briefly detail what happened to James Miller,
who Iras charged with being drunk aud committing
a nuisance In the street. He waa fined $10, which
if he coaid pay off in g(cents), would entitle him to
a speedy discharge.
Thomas Wilson waa arraigned on • charge
of being drunk, disorderly, and striking aud
destroying the property of Bam Harris, an
aged • and crippled negro. We could hardly
suppose, if Thomas Wilson had been In his
sober senses, be would thus wantonly treat the man,
as his appearance indicated some decency ; we, there
fore conclude that be was drunk, and without reflec
tion, tumbled the bag of meal from the shoulder* ol
the negro, and aftef wards struck him. He had noth
ing to say aud was fined $25. Although it is true
that mauy crimes are placed to theaoooont of whis
key which do not properly bglbhg thereto, In this
ca e we think Thomas drunk, did wha£^fhomos sober
regrets having done.
Jno. Stevenaon, (colored), one of those little nui
sances in the shape of cotton, thieves, who infest the
docks and wharves, armed with bags oeteneibly pick
ing up the looss cotton, but whose operations more
frequently extend to the cotton bales, was arrested,
charged with ateaUng cotton from the balee, aud was
aentenc d t^O days imprisonment.
Richard Beards, colored, who ia dignified as tbe
most notorffiis and expert chicken thief in the city,
was arrested at 4 o'clock yesterday morning with
two turkeys and a.chicken in his possession, sup
posed to have been stolen. Richard swore that he
didn't steal them, but was simply sarrying them into
the country for a colored woman. He waa remanded
lor further investigation, and we would willing y bet
one ot the turkeys that he stole them. He ia the same
youth shot by Mr. Goopor and afterwards by a police
man while in the act of stealing.
On the Information Docket Captain Ogden was
charged with violating the Harbor Master’s regular
tioua in discharging coal from his vessel without a
tarpaulin. The Captain was certain that the tarpauliu
was there, the officer equally certain it was not. and
the case was continued iu order to get a witness on
the part of the defence.

understood what he was about, and roamed around

Cotton.—Our market opened this morning with a
good demand; buyers being out, but found that tin-
offering stock was very light, and that mqstly ln lu
beyond their limits. Advices from Liverpool not
being so favorable, caused no change, on account of
New York remaining firm at 23o for middling. To
wards noon buyers were iuJucwd to give the prices
asked in the morning, bat factors generally advanced
their figures in accordance, thereby restricting wales.
Middling cottons are very scarce, and but very few
sales of this grade have been made. Tbe market is
very irregular, making it difficult to give correct
quotations; but we give tbe figures below, remarking
that it closed firm with an advancing tendency.
