Fxxiasibm.—There seems to be a growing
Fenian furore in the far West. A Convention
ot the Fenian Brotherhood wa3 held in'Du-
tmqae on the fcetb. at which a large number
ot delegates from the State were present.
The Convention issued an address, pledging
from the State of Iowa, money and men tf>
support Gen. O'Neill in an aggressive move
ment. A mass.-nieeting was held, at which
aueechea were made by Gen. O Neill and
Fxofesaor Bropby, of Waahingtoo.
With the Presidential canvass and a new
Fenian demonstration in Canada, we art
likely'to have a lively time this summer.
The Fenians have chosen a time for their
movement when politicians will be cautious
•of interference. The Irish vote counts in a
Presidential contest.
Gen. J. C. Bbeckinbidoi.—A private letter
from the youngest son of this illustrious soldier
and statesman, informs us that he will leave
Europe this month, an>d will reach Quebec by
the middle of next June. The General, at last
.accounts, was in excellent health.
In Hamburg 1 they have formed a stock
company, with a capital of $250,000, for
starting a German colony in Florida. It is
expected that twenty thousand North Ger
mans can be directed thither in the course of
two years, which would ’make the specula
tion an exceedingly successful one.
Advance in Shocks.—-The papers report a
decided upward tendency of five-twenties

and Monday. *0* MoriOay there w« a far
ther general advanced <bf a'half per cent, io
prices, and the erciteinent is said to have
surpassed anythin#' tkdt has been seen in
Wall street since waf times. The English,
German and Fraoch.bankers are buying our
ten-forties and fife-tweh^ies with avidity.
The improvement in the stocks waa4°ubt-

Forney's Press, extolling the prayerof Rev.
Mr. Boynton, Chaplain of the House of Rep
resentatives, on Saturday last, -in-which he un
dertook to admonish Seniors to bd certain t<i
vote right on the impeachment quest ion of the
day, said that the fervent words of the Chaplain
“ should fall with teHihg i&dii upon the hearts
of those to whom they were directed.” ;

We think Forney overrates the disaster
that has befallen his party in the frustration
of their impeachment plot. If they had the
addrem t» get ^ecphtly *Wflquietly out ot It,
we doubf whether they Vould not be quite
as well off without the conviction of the
President aa with it. Ben Wade in the Pre

Forney should take heart. He should re

and brought tbe country to its present happy
and prosperous condition. We mean the
power of misrepresentation and falsehood.
In the exercise of this potent influence suc

made them perfect. The people are still efe-
