Ratification .Meeting In Fierce County
Agreeable to previous notice, a Dumber of
the good citizens of Fierce county met at
Overstreet Hall, in the town of Blaokahear,
for the purpose of ratifying the nominations
and platform of the Democratic Barty, • pass
ed in their late convention held in New- York.
The meeting was called to order by Col.
Jno. C. Nicholis, 'and upon .motion, E. J,
Acosta, was chosen as Chairman, and Capt.
A, McMillan, Secretary of the meeting. On
motion, the Chair appointed A. M. Moore, J.
C. Nicholis, T, J. Falier, C. .&dSVpodbridgi
and T. E. Lyons, a committee of five, to pre
pare business for the action of the meeting.
The committee retired, and in a few minutes
returned, and reported for the action of the
meeting, the following
EESOLtJIIONa:
Whereas, issue has been fairly joined be
tween the Democratic and Radical parties of
this great Commonwealth, for the Presiden
tial campaign of 1868; and whereas, the plat
lorm ot principles adopted by the Demo
cratic Convention recently assembled at New
York, together with the candidates nomi
nated for President and Vice President, meet
our entire approbation; and Whereas, it is the
sense of this meeting, that the plain and im
perative duty of every man who has the wel
fare of hia country at heart, is to give evi
dence, by works of the faith that ia within
him; Therefore he it
Resolved, 1st. That we fully endorse the
great principles of trntn, justice, and sound
statesmanship embodied in the said platform
of the Democratic party.
Resolved, 2d. Teas in the -Hon. Horatio
Seymour and Francis P. Blair, we recognize
Capable and tearless champions of “liberty
governed by law;” that we pledge ourselves
to work for their election—witn a zeal be
fitting the importance of the result.
Resolved, 3d. That in onr judgment the
Democratic party in this canvass occupy tne
last stitch of Constitutional freedom, and we
earnestly call npou those who have hereto
fore differed witn us in new matters of policy,
to join us in a war to the knife, and the kuile
to the knuckles, against the enemies ot the
American Constitution and Government.
Dr. A. M. Moore, nftef_reading. tne report
and before the action of the meeting thereon,
u-ged their adoption in a forcible, truthful
and eloquent jpeecb, and. was followed by
ColonsiNicholitfih an impressive, patriptiu
andearnest appeal to all citizens, "regardless
of.past differences, to rally to the support of
the party and its noble standard-bearers in
the conflict -for the principles of constitu
tional liberty.
On motion, the resolutions were unani
mously adopted.
On motion, a committee of three, to con
sist of D. D. McRae, H. G. Riggins and H.
J. Tatern, were appointed, to seieot delegates
10 represent u. in the Convention to be held
in Atlanta on the 23d inst. ' J
Tue committee selected the following gen
tlemen as delegates : Wo. P. Wyiiy, A. M.
Moore, T. J. Fuller, E. J. Acosta and J. C.
Nicholis.
The meeting then, on motion, resolved
itself into a Democratic Club, and elected as
its officers Colonel Junn C. Nicboils, Presi
dent; Nathan Dixon, T. J,. Fuller and John
Strickland, Vice Presidents, and Captain
Alexander McMillan, Secretary.
Ou motion, it was resolved that the pro
ceedings of tne meeting be pnbiisued in the
Democratic papers of me District.
Tne meeting, with three hearty cheers for
Seymour and Biair, upon motion, adjourned.

At a large and enthusiastic meeting of the
Democratic party of Lowndes county, Mr.
W. B. Jones being called to the chair, the
following preamble and resolutions was
nnanimously adopted:
Whereas, The New York Democratic Con
vention has adopted a platform boldly and
fearlessly setting forth the principles of the
party, and arraigning before the tribunal of
public opinion ine corrupt and unprincipled
scheming and legislation of the Radical
party, and clearly und unequivocally setting
lortn the vital issues of the day, and taking
tne position thereon which every true friend
of his country can maintain and support;
And, whereas, The said Convention did
nnanimously nominate that 'sterling patriot
and distinguished statesman, Horatio Bey-
moor, of New York, for President of the
United Slates, and that true" and faithful
friend of his whole country, Frank P. Blair,
of Missouri; Therefore,
Resolved, That we cordially approve and
endorse the platform and principles adopted
by the Now York National Democratic Con
vention, feeling that no true friend of Con
stitutional liberty can but approve und un
hesitatingly support the Same.
Speeches were made by Mr. S. M. Varna-
doe, G. T. Hammond, R. A. Peeples, and
Colonel Silles, after which the following
gentlemen were appointed delegetes to the
Conveniion fo be held in Atlanta on the 23d
inst.: , i

Resolved, That the proceedings of this

against or the Bills of said Planters’ Bank of the
State of Georgia, dp present the same,to the said
George W. Anderson and Hugh W. Mercer, Assignees
of said Bank, within six months from the date of the
publication of this order, or be forever debarred from
auy participation in the assets in the hands 01 said
Assignees to bedistributed ; and that at the expiration
of said six months the Bald Assignees shall dietrihnte
and pay over the assets ia their nauds as Assignees,
alter deducting commissions and ^expenses, to the
creditors who shall then have filed their claims, pro
rata, according to their legal priorities; and upon
their making each distribution and payments the
said Assignees shall be forever discharged from all

AN ORDINANCE
To Regulate and Fix the Botes of Fore for Covey-
once of PaBaenffera and their Baggage by Cabs,
Hacks, Carriages, Omnibuses and other vohicles in
tke City of Savannah.
Sec.I.Thfi Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Sa
vannah, in Council assembled, do hereby ordain:
That from and after the passage of this ordinance the
rates of fare Tor (he conveyance of any passenger and
his or her baggage from any point in said city to any
other point in tbe same, by any cab, hack, carnage,
omnibus, or otber vehicle, shall be fifty cents and no
more; provided Always tb&t where the baggage of
any passenger shall exceed one hundred pounds in
weigbCan exifa charge of not more then twenty-five
.cents for each- additional piece shall be allowed, and
may be* received for conveying suen excess of bag
gage; And provided also, that only one-naif said rates
shall be allowed for carrying children under twelve
years of age.
Section 2. And it is farther ordained by the autho
rity aforesaid, That any driver, conductor or owner
of any snch ctb,'hack, carriage, omnibus or other
vehicle who shall offend against any part of this or
dinance shall, on conviction before the Police Court,
be fined in a asm not exceeding thirty dollars tor
every snch offence.
