The Washington Express has been permit
ted to ntsko the following extract) from a
private letter addressed to a citizen of Wash
ington by one of the most reliable Democrats
ot Ohio, who is thoroughly versed in West
ern pohtres'ana familiar With the principal
topal issues which are likely to enter into the
campaign this fall. He says: “My candid
opinion is, that Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois
Democratic majorities in
October and November. Qf v this we have
the clearest indications. As to Ohio there is
no doubt; we feel confident of success; and
I ’also believe that Vallandighain will beat
Bchenck. Our county (Montgomery) will
give Mr. Vallandighain from five to seven
hundred majority. Duller will give from
twenty-two to twenty-five hundred majority,
and Warren and Preble cannot overcome
these figures. This is the opinion of some of
our best posted men in This district. Wo,
are making a most vigorous and determined
canvass. Wc have the masses of the people
with ns, and are bound to win. I have 'at
tended a number of meetings in town and

such crowds of people and such interest non

honest opinion. - - . ' rj ***.’’

who informed them that the people would

A large majority of the Republicans were

notify you of our recent loss by fire, and
beg your sympathy. On the night of Lhe
20th iust., our Lodge in this place was fired
by the hauds of an incendiary, and, when
discovered, the building was so completely
enveloped in flames that ingress to the Hall
was impossible, and therefore, everything,
save the Charter and Record, were destroyed.
This is a sad calamity upon us, and more
particularly, at this time, wheu we are so
completely environed by poverty aud want.
We are poor, brethren, and to regain our loss
we most have assistance, and with this view,
a communication will be sent each Lodge in

Forney’s Chronicle says:
“The manner to which the Democratic
members were outiyneralled in regard to the
adjournment was the source of much amuse

adjournment resolution wa r 'the first bu-ti

danger was apprehended—and betorp any
Democrat had come into the boll. A single
objection would, of course, in the absence of
a quorum, have defeated it.”
The exultation'of the Radicals over their
villainy is not unlike the chuckliugof the
thief at the successful commission of a crime
in which be feared detection. The first act
