GKORGIA, HALL COUNTY.
Superior Court, September Term, 1828.
T HE Grand Jury for the county of Hall, selected
and sworn at September Term, I82S, make the
following presentments.
V'j a’ ti :stly recommend to our Inferior Court, to
cause an investigation to he had of the conduct of Fe
lix IL Walker, late Clerk ofthe Inferior Court of Hall
county ; a id particularly to ascertain what monies be
longing to the county have been received by said Wal
ker, and which are unaccounted for, and that they
cause any arrears to be collected and paid into the
County Treasury.
And we further recommend to the Inferior Court, to
appoint Robert Mitchell, David €. Neal and George
fiawpe, to make this investigation, and report to the
Inferior Court as early as possible. He also present
us a grievance the conduct of William Henslce, la'c
fax Receiver of this county, and recommend to the
proper authority an investigation of his conduct. We
believe it will be found that bv his official delinquency
a large number of the citizens of this county have fail i
ed to render in an account of their Taxable property,
whereby not only the Stutc but also the county has
sustained a very considerable loss.
Me deem it almost unnecessary to present the very
had state of our public roads, seeing that the pregent-
nts of former Grand Juries have been so little re-
gariled. Iti® to th** Jury matter of astonishment that
any thing which contributes so much to the conve
nience and interest of the community as good muds,
should I) *0 little attended to. It appears to the Jury
,„.at the laws of tin* country have made ample provision
upon this subject; but it seems that the community have
by common cnnscm' aerred not to inlwce III sc laiv-.
■\e hope that public, auen'ion will lie directed to ibis
matter, and believe that in public opinion only will the
remedy be found.
M e have examined the return of the trustees for the
poor school fund, and are gratified to find that they
have faithfully done their duty.
We allow Pleasant Hulsey Tax Collector, twentv-fivc
dollars and twenty-seven cents on Iiis insolvent b*t
Wo recommend to th * next Legislature to take info
consideration the necessity of establishing a Court of
Errors and Anneals, to bo so constituted that it may
he equally accessible to the poor and to the rich, and
that too, with the least public expense.
We also recommend a law to he passed compelling
Justices of the Peace to give bond and security for their
faithful performance in office, and we earnestly request
our Senator and Representatives to use their best endea
vors for the purpose.
We present David Martin and James L. Lolly for
gambling on the 2d of August. Witness John Dorsey,
Isane Dorsey, Henry Parks.
Wo present John Watson and Shadrick Green for
fighting during the present term.
M e present John Smith for perjury on the 19th April,
1828,in a Certiorari from the Justice’s Court ofthe ftCOth
dist. (J. M. against P. J. Murray. Witness, John Nich
ols, David Tallant, Joshua Y> j.sner, John E. Reives and
P. 1. Murray.
We present Burl Thompson and Joab Martin for
lighting, in the Town of Gainesville, some time in the
>nth of August. Witness, \aron Brown.
M e present as an evil which we hope the next Legis
lature may take into consideration, the necessity of
parsing a law to provide eomo compensation for
hand and Petit Jurors.
U> request that that part of our presentment which
of a public nature, he published in the Athenian.
