AVillt these views on the subject of our judi-

rnu-t admit the nacessity of tho proposed
change. It is no new project, hut is such as
exist in perhaps every other well organized

of which no government can lie completely or

t* Inli-nostrumite” has paid little respect to

attempt to injure the charne.ter of n inedieinal
agent that has nppenred under the restrictions
of a patent, I will nevertheless reply to this /it-

ner as the subject will permit. Whether his
communications merit the title of “ strieturos’’
is for a discriminating public, to decide. I
■would he pleased to know whether hi- dnnn-
tdiiu is limited to the pule of the medicinal
boil' d of this state, or whether he is armed with
authority to superintend the conduct of every
physician in the United States. It is right that
the medical profession should hav° its censors,
as there are some psmdn members of it who
have a greater disposition to quibble than to
investigate elinienllv the nielhodis medendi of
nvdicino. Perhaps “ l nti-nnstiumite” has
eul n eed powers, and considers himself nl li-

Indeed it would he well for him, ff he had n

To Ihe J\Icmbt.r.i of Ihe liom d of Physicians of

It becomes my painful duty to annotineo to
you the death of Dr. \noerson W vtkins.
In this dispensation, an extensive body of
kindred and acquaintances has lost its most
valued friend, the community one of its most
respectable and useful citizens, the church one
of its most substantial pillars, and the inedicnl
profession one of its most aged, experienced,
and useful prnetitioners.
Rut still farther was the deceased connected
with the best interests of the state, and warm
est feelings of friendship. An afflictive dis
pensation of Providence has compelled us to
relinquish what judgment and feeling forbade.
—the pleasure nnd usefulness of his associa
tion as a member of our Board.
Whilst then, the gloom of sorrow hangs on
every brow, nnd Ihe sobs of grief infest every
bosom—whilst kindred, friends, and citizens,
Christians nnd physicians, blend their lamen
tations, our sympathies and our sorrows, ns a
Hoard of Physicians, enter into the genernl
feeling for the loss of ono of its most aged and
respectable members.
Ill testimony therefore, of our sense of the
great loss the Board of Physician* sustains in
Ihe death of Dr. Anderson Watkins, it is re
commended, that each member of the Board
