We fid not expect, after the election was
over, ercr to refer to this suttee* again. But
we have seen shell strange statements lately,
.J on both sides, thsit.Afare disposed tc set the I
matter correctly Wore our readers. The
whole Democratic rote ot the State is about J
46,060, and the Tuvalu or Union -rote a lit- j
tie over 6,000. These rotes in the sixteen j
counties where tic Tagaio ticket received
the largest rote, are as follows, to which we

‘’-In the above table we have taken all the
counties in which the Tugaloo or Uuion tick
et received more than one hundred votes.
They are only 16 in number, and by: refer
ence to their location, it can easily be seen
who controlled them. But what votes have
been controlled Democratic or Whig? If any
one will take the trouble to examine the
foregoing table, he will be astonished to find
how few Democrats voted that ticket. In 11
out of the 16 counties, it will be seen, that
the Tugaloo and Scott ticket combined are
not so large as the Tayior vote of 1848; und
just in proportion as you sec the Tugaloo
ticket strong you see the Scott ticket weak,
with three or four exceptions, showing that
the Tugaloo vote was almost altogether the
■old Whig vote in those counties, and that
precious few Democrats voted that ticket.
Perhaps the Tugaloo ticket Was cast by two
.thousand Democrats, all told ; certainly not
more. What a tremendous vote to make a
noise about '.—Jeffersonian.

Awful Casuality.—Accident on the South
Carolina Railroad.—Death of Col. Richard
Singleton und Grand-son.
The cxcessivo rains have done most seri
ous damage to the Railroad culverts.below.
Lost evening, as the Camden train proceed
ed from the Junction towards the Wateree,
the bank and culvert dear Clarkson's turn
out being loosened by the washing rains,
the cars were precipitated over the bank.
The venerable Col. Richard Singleton, and
were instantly killed. Mr
Bradley, of Sumpter, received stfth serious
injuries that his life is despaired of. Young
Mr. May ton had a log broken. A gentle
man from New \6rk had his clavicle bro
ken. Mr. Shiver, the baggage-master was
bruised badly. The conductor, M. Scant
ling, was badly injured. Two Germans,
who were on the car, are missiug, supposed
to be buried under the wreck. A woman
who sold cakes in the ears has not been seen
since. The Engine passed over, but the
tender and passenger cars were dashed to
pieces. No passenger in the passenger car
was injured. Col. Singleton and grandson,
were in the baggage car.
The culvert at Dry Branch, two miles
above Gadsden, also gave away last night
with freight train. The Engine got over,
but four cares of the train were thrown off.
