If the wsrk of setting out shade
| trees should go on a while longer,
Carnesville will be ono of the best
shaded towns in the country in a few
I years.
Carnesrilie has ten stores, six
lawyers, four physicians,five pieach

wood shop, black smith shop, livery
stable, church and printing office . •
Much of the upland in this coun¬

per cent, within 12 or 15 years
There has beeD a great decrease in
the bottom land crops.
There is complaint and dissatisfac¬
tion among some of our people about
the stock law. It no doubt works

it i. the law and will have to he
obeyed. —
This place has been infested with
drummers for sometime pant. Many
merchants look upon them as a sort
of convenience, but we think the
country would better off * witheut
them; the consumers of goods doubt¬
less pay their expenses.
Prof. Pennis opened school at tho
Allens Academy on yesterday. Prof.
Dennis has been taught the norma
methods of teaching, and we hope
his coming will be the beginning oi
better methods of teaching in our
county.
W e heard a merchant of this
town say a few days ago, that hm
ffrm bought five hundred dollars
worth of ehickens last year, The
poultry trade amounts to several
thousand dollars in the county, and
might easily be increased tenfold.
Mrs. James Boroughs died last

The body of Frank Sanders was
brought to Carnesville sometime
since ior the purpose of dissection^
but before tke work had progressed
very far, it became generally known
that it was here, and superstition
was too much for sicnce. The clam¬
or was silenced by the burial of the
body near the poor house on Saturday
evening.
It is said that J T Mabry has
skipped out for Texas. He settled
with the Ordinary on the terms
propozed by the county board of
commissioners, received the money
for building the bridge at the river
Mills; took the train at Lavonia on
the 7th in6t. and had not been heard
from up to Sunday. The parties
who assisted in building the bridge
have been left in the cold. We
hope he will come up all right m
few days. 4 • f

Elbert County Fertilizer Company:
Gentlemen:—I used your Cotton seed
Compound last season both for cot¬

fertilizer for corn I ever used, and I
am satisfied is as good for cotton as
any fertilizer made, Very Respect¬
fully Y A Daniel.
The above is a letter from Sena¬
tor Daniel; he has used several brands
of fertilizers and the cotton seed
