PRINCIPLES BEFORE IMIEHST.
Ellav lle. Ga., January 11th, 1883.
THANK THE liIVEK OF ALE.
This may he a happy year for some
And a sorrowful one for more—
As only the angels above can tell
' Of the things fate has in store„
But whether the sunshine come to us
Or whether the shadows fall
Let us bow our heads, and hearts— and then
Just thank the Giver of all.
—Ruth the Gleaner.
It is noticable that every year we
have less parties and balls among us.
The 882nd district is without a
Bailiff. We have not heard f rein t
others.
Miss Jessie Smith and W. B. Cal
lum, of Brown’s, have been visiting
among us. (
Ale of our first-class roads arc in
about a third-class condition. The
cause: careless, ignorance and rain.
It’ is our intention to-give in our
next issue what is expected of road
overseers by commissioners and the
l i\V.
Oub Sheriff, T. B. Myers, is always
willing for the popular verdict to pass
upon him, at least he has been a sub
ject for twelve years.
In some sections of Schley farmers
have their tenants at work, while in
others they are still moving from
place to place, and it seems that if
they get settled by February they
will do well.
Hymenial.—At the residence of
William Taylor, in Houston county,
on the 31st ult., Mr. J. W. B. Cook,
of Taylor county, and Miss Mamie E.
Greene, formerly of Schley county.
Another hearthstone, and a happy
one.
Henceforth until a change the
‘News will appear in the Wednes
day’s issue, then Friday’s, instead of
Friday’s then and in
consequence the Schley County
News will date from Wednesday in
stead of Thursday.
Tiie attendance of the Ellaville
High School is about eighty. Miss
Annie Berry has been elected as B.
FI. Wilkerson’s assistant. Prof. .1. J.
Harvey, the last year’s principal, is
among us, but expects to teach a
school in other live parts.
Schley county has been climbing
a hill at Parker’s Barlow mill in try
ing to get to Amerfcus, all of the win
ter, that is almost impassable, and
the bridge immediately south is in
quite a bad condition, the hutments
are lower than the bridge by two or
three feet, holes in the flooring and
balustrade entirely down on one side.
A good place to start a suit for dam
age.
Last Saturday night Capt. C. L.
Peacock’s store, in Ellaville, was
broken into from the glass over the
door, and from ten to fifteen dollars
in change was stolen from the counter
drawer. Signs were seen where an
attempt was made to prize open a
window; but a ladder was carried from
Dixon’s store to effect the entrance.
If any goods were stolen it has not
been discovered to a certainty as yet.
Suspicion lies on no one as yet.

Advice to Consumptives.
On the appearance ofthefirstsymp
toms, as general debility, loss of ap
petite, pallor, chilly sensations, fol
lowed by night-sweats and cough,
prompt measures of relief should be
taken. Consumption is scrofulous
disease of the lungs; therefore use the
great anti-scrofulous or blood purifier
and strength-restorer, Dr. Pierce’s
“Golden Medical Discovery.” Supe
rior to cod liver oil as a nutritive, and
unsurpassed as a pectoral. For weak
lungs, spitting of blood, and kindred
affections,- it has no equal. Sold by
druggists. For Dr. Pierce’s treatise
on Consumption send two stamps.

WOMAN.
Better than the Smile* of King*.
To bring health and happiness to the
homes of suffering women is a mission be
fore which royal favor sinks into insignifi
cance. What earthly benefaction can com
pare with one which protects from
“That dire disease whose ruthless power
Withers beauty’s tsansient flower?”
which gives ease for pain, joy for sorrow,
smiles for tears, the roses of health for the
pallor of disease, the light elastic step for
dragging weariness, nights of soft repose for
heavy hours of tossing restlessness, bound
ing vigor for languishing dulness, the swell
ing lines of full grown beauty for the sharp
and withered form of emaciation, a long life
of mental, physical, social and domestic en
joyments for a few sad days of pain and
gloom, ending in an early grave? Such is the
mission, such are the resultt of Dr. J. Brad
field’s Female Regulator, which is hence
truly and appropriately styled “Woman’s
Best Friend.”
“Whites,” and all those irregularities of
the womb so destructive to the health, happi
ness and beauty of women, disappear like
magic before a single bottle pi tins wonder
ful compound. Physicians prescribe it.
