Tho Pall Term Opens August 27th.
Wo expect to use our utmost effort
to make this school a success.
Situation Healthful and Delightful
Hoard very cheap. Remember, un
less otherwise agreed upon when en
tering, you will he charged for the
whole term, except in the ease of pro
tracted sickness. Patronage solici
ted. G. 15. WKAYICU,
Aug24-2w Principal.
J. 11. Stevens has been ill for two
or three weeks but is up again.
Many of our former citizens are vis
iting among us during eampmeeting.
The editor’s son, Charles Philip,
has been quite ill for the last few days
with bilous colic.
H. H. Singletary has purchased a
twelve horse power Eclipse engine to
drive his machinery with.
Some few of Schley’s citizens have
subscribed about fifteen or twenty
thousand dollars to have the railroad
to pass through.
Do not grieve because you are not
making a half crop, as it will do no
good, and it is more pleasant to your
self and those around you to be cheer
fui.
Weavels have begun eating the new
corn in the fields while it is not yet
matured, and if they continue for two
months like they have begun they
will ruin it.
Many of our farmers will not make
more than enough cotton to pay er
the guano that went under it; and tho
seed will not be well enough matured
to plant next year.
Caterpillars are numerous in all of
thocotton fields where rain has been
recently, but some cotton foliage is
too tough for their teeth where rain
has not fallen in nearly two months.
Sheriff Myers has three prisoners in
jail, one woman for money stealing,
one for hog stealing, and one man for
murder. The Sheriff knows that the
jail is not safe and the county not
able to board them so iio keeps them
chained down.
11. W. Cockrell has purchased a
twelve horse power Cooper Fraction
Engine, which he will use to drive
his giu with, and contemplates carry
ing a load of passengers to the barbe
cue at Buena Vista next Tuesday.
Tickets arc at a premium; procure
them early.
Last Sunday afternoon*me low
bred whelp cut the leather portion oi
a very fine buggy belonging to Mr.
B. C. Williams while it was at the
camp grounds. A like crime was
committed there last year and it is a
pity that such designing cowards can
not be caught in the act.
The '.ring Hill Colored Sunday
School picniced last Saturday. The
crowd was quite large, dinner abun
dant, music, vocal and instrumental,
excellent, and speeches and essays
quite credible as we learn. We regret
that we have not space for one that is
a credit to the writer and instructive
to the colored people generally.
Two young men driving a large bay
horse passed William Allen’s on their
way to campmeeting last Sunday
morning while the family were at
breakfast, and while near the houso
they began shooting off a pistol and
hollowing, which frightened Mrs. Al
len. The parties can get a free lunch
by registering before Schley’s next
grand jury.
We believe that from a one day’s
visit to the campmeeting that it is
one among the dullest that has ever
been there. The crowd was small and
we heard much poor crop talk. There
were three tents vacant, and two more
partially so. For ministers wo had,
besides the pastor in charge, J. T.
Ainsworth; A. M. Austin, Presiding
Elder; Chas. Lane; IT. W. Key; G. S.
Johnson; J. W. Weston, R. F. Wil
liamson and Merrit.
Camp Ground Elopement.— Last
Sunday afternoon Miss Fannie Wal
ters and Mr. R. A. Crutchfield met at
the camp ground and very quietly
left the throng, drove to Ellaville,
procured license and called on Justice
It. C. Meadows to join them as one,
which he did while they sat in the
buggy. After the ceremony the bride
accompanied husband to his bachel
or’s hall. The couple had been under
a marriage contract for some time but
the bride’s parents objected, as we
learn.
Young, old and middle-aged,
all experience the wonderful beneficial
effects of Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. Young
children suffering from sore eyes, sore
ears, scald-head, or with any scrofu
lous or syphilitic taint, inay be made
healthy and strong by its use.
Somo young ladies have invented a
new plan for securing husbands.—
“They go out boating with a man of
their choice, contrive to upset the boat,
then grab bint and save his life, the
victim generally showing his gratitude
by marrying his preserver.” It is a
novel scheme—for young ladies who
can swim; but tho probabilities are
that a few years after marriage the man
will regret that his life was saved.
Vegetable Sicilian
HAIR RENEWER
was the first preparation perfectly adapted to
cure diseases of the scalp, and the first suc
cessful restorer of faded or gray hair to its
natural color, growth, and youthful beauty.
It has had many imitators, but none have so
fully met all the requirements needful for
the proper treatment of the hair and scalp.
Hall’s Hair Rexewer has steadily grown
in favor, and spread its fame and usefulness
to every quarter of the globe. Its unparal
leled success can be attributed to hut ono
cause: the entire fulfilment of its promises.
Tho proprietors have often been surprised
at the receipt of orders from remote coun
tries, where they had never made an effort for
its introduction.
The use for a short time of Hall’s llair
Hen ewer wonderfully improves tho per
sonal appearance. It cleanses the scalp from
all impurities, cures all humors, fever, and
j dryness, and thus prevents baldness. It
stimulates the weakened glands, and enables
them to push forward anew and vigorous
growth. Tho effects of this articlo are not
transient, like those of alcoholic prepara
tions, but remain a long time, which makes
its use a matter of economy.

DUST-PROOF
onwiniK Oil FACE IIS,
MANUFACTURED BY THE
American Watch Cos.,
WALTHAM, MASS.
’I bis case isfonnedin or.e solid piece with
out joint or seam, opening in front only,
thus avoiding tiie usual Cap, and securing
greater strength and durability.
These watches are all open face. The
bezel, Into which an extra strong crystal is
fitted with an especially prepared water
proof cement, is attached to the case by
screwing it thereon, and thus forms an air
tight junction with tho body of the case,
which is proof against dust and moisture.
To railroad men, travelers, miners, lum
bermen and others who are almost constant
ly exposed and who have to make frequent
reference to the watch, these qualities are
of the utmost importance.
The Following’ Letters tell their
own Story.
1 ‘Valdosta, Georgia, July 20,1882.
“I sold one ot your Patent Dust-Proof
Gases about ten months ago, and tiie other
day it came back to me witli tiie request to
make it wind easier. On examination I
found that tiie stem was rusty, and I inquir
ed into tiie cause of it. Tiie gentlemen
stated to me that lie was starting some saw
logs tliat had lodged in the bend of the river,
when his chain caught in a bush and threw
Ins wateli into about twclvo feet of water,
and lie was about two hours finding it.
AVhen lie got it out it was running and lie
thought all right. In about three months
lie found that tiie stem was hard to turn
and sent it to me.
I can say that the wateli is all that the
company claims for it and recommend it to
ail railroad and mill men.
B. W. BENTLY.”
“Clinton, lowa, April 29, 1881.
“I wish you would send me a spring for
the ffm. Ellery Watch. * * * By tiie way
this is a wateli I sold in your Screw Bezel
Case to a farmer last fall. The first of Jan
uary he lost the watch in the woods, and
found it tliis week in about one foot of
water. It had lain three months and over
in snow and water, with hut slight injury
to tiie watch—only a liair spring.
“C. S. RAYMOND.”
The above wore very severe tests, and de
monstrate beyond a doubt, that for any rea
sonable length of time during which a watch
might he under water it would receive no
injury whatever.
